they over charged, came 6 hours late without a phone call. took cigarette/lunch/cell phone breaks while on the clock

waste of money id recommend using another moving company

the rep called me 3 times a day for 4 weeks asking if we are interested in using their moving service.
after we paid and i send her emails with questions asking why a roll of tape costs 22 dollars they fail to respond

sounds like it is too late, but you should not have paid but insisted on the estimate they gave you... so if they say $2000 for 10 hours, then that is what you pay.... I had the same problem with my movers and I stuck to my payment for the estimate since it was their problem they only brought 3 guys and not 4 like I asked. I refused to pay and told them that I was more than willing to discuss the issue with their management at 11:00 PM on a Friday night. I told them that I would cancel the credit card and dispute the charges anyway so it was in their interests to agree.

I agree it is too late I just wanted to let other people know. But it seems thats how these moving companies operate? I should have stood my ground at the time so its my fault , just want to save others a headache :)

I've seen the 20/20 specials on the moving companies, and hearing stories like this makes me so scared to move with a company. We've moved ourselves so far, the few times we've moved. But the next move I'd like some help... we have more crap now! I think that's part of the reason I've no desire to move :) I don't want to pack and haul my stuff around!

Has anyone had any good experiences with that "Two Guys and a Truck" moving company? Those movers that charge like $50 an hour?

We used Town and Country movers- not the cheapest but reliable, excellent service, insured, on time- not a thing broken, not a wall scraped. used them twice and they were perfect both moves.

the workers work hard the entire time and were worth every penny.

We've used Two Guys & a Truck a couple of times and been happy with them. No frills (i.e., laying down carpet protectors, padding stairways) but on time and worked hard.

We've also used Big Green Moving and were very happy with their attitude, service, and price.

I also recommend Boxcart for portable storage (like PODS) and moving. They laid a carpet protector across the main traffic areas and padded the stair rail so it wouldn't get banged up. The service was good, fast, and the price was reasonable. We used their storage facility to store some things while our house was on the market and then when we moved they brought the storage box to the new house along with the regular moving van.

It's very easy for a small group of guys to get together and create a moving company with no formal training or experience. It pays to do some research about the company you are considering hiring! There are several good moving companies out there, but lots of fly by night operations too.

My personal recommendation is JK Moving. They will come to your home and give you an estimate. They have a training facility for all of their staff, are very dependable and take lots of care to protect your home and belongings (covering floors, furniture wrap, etc.).

We used All Star Movers. They came to give us an estimate and we ended up paying LESS than the estimate. They told us if we wanted to help load/off-load we could and we saved a couple hours doing that. They were very professional, used furniture wrap, covered floors, lent us boxes when we ran out, even helped pack a few of the last minute ones. They took only 30 minutes for lunch, were on time, and actually a pleasure to work with. The guys were personable and we had some good laughs with them during the course of the day.

JK will also let you raid their warehouse for boxes. It came in useful not having to buy any of the boxes we needed to move. They were a little pricier than others but offered twice as many people for the job for only a small amount of $$ more than the others we called, and my wife and I were extremely pleased with their work.
    Another vote for them.

Also before hiring a mover, go to http://www.movingscam.com and start your research there.

I moved with allied moving companies and I was very happy. The crew was prompt, the customer service was good and also took time to make sure everything was done properly.

I've had good experiences with JK. I've also used All-Pro Moving & Storage a few times and they were okay. At the end of the job they ask you to fill out a form and it asks whether or not they took a lunch, etc. I'm not sure if this is standard procedure but they charged me what they said they would. But then again I did not run over my time estimated.

I have used NAVL as my household movers a couple times... The drivers, loaders and unloaders were all very courteous and careful. I had no complaints.

J&K here too! They were awesome! Moved the entire house in one day, and those guys worked hard! We had no damage to anything, and the charges were explained before they came, and we paid them exactly what was agreed to. No sneaky charges, no holding furniture. Highly recommend!!!
