    DOG OWNERS:

ONE WAY TO HELP TO SHOW RESPECT FOR OTHERS IS TO HAVE A DOG PARK. (A DOG PARK IS A DESIGNATED AREA FOR DOGS TO FROLIC OFF LEASH.) IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN WORKING TO BRING ONE TO LOUDOUN COUNTY, PLEASE CONTACT ME:

An off-leash dog park around here would rock. The closest one that we take our dog to is in Reston. It's fun for the dog and good for the owner (dog gets tired heh)

Where in Reston? We used to bring our dog to a local dog park in Knoxville -- a company actually funded it:

Our dog LOVED being able to go swimming and then run around!

There are 2 in our area (well ones that I know about), one in herndon and one in reston. We've been going to the one in reston (when it's not muddy and raining and snowing and being yucky out.) Here's the link to the parks and their addresses.

It's 0948 am. Be on the lookout for a male jogger wearing white t-shirt and red shorts jogging with his german shephard/alaskan husky which is unrestrained and not on a leash. And yes...I saw the dog doing what dogs tend to do too... I've already notifed Wes and animal control. The individual came from the general direction of the Southern Walk apartments before coming onto to the walking trail in Southern Walk via Clairborne.

FYI -- if anyone needs to contact animal control the number is 703.777.0406.

I've been working from home today where I have a great view of the walking trail within Southern Walk. I have so far seen three different individuals walking along the trail and not having their dogs on a leash. My neighbors have pit bulls which have been going crazy seeing these dogs running around. We've been lucky they are trained well and while barking up a storm, have made no attempts to jump their fence.

I'm still amazed by how many individuals I am seeing who apparently do not care that they are blatantly disregarding lease laws and ordinances. While I have no doubt that the owners believe their dogs to be well-behaved and thereby not requiring a leash, there is still always the "Murphy's factor" that can come into play such as children startling a dog; or the dog startling/scaring young children; the dog having an unexpected reaction to another dog or person...I could go on and on.

I guess I'm baffled at why this regulation is consistently ignored.
