Do you have to pick up their poop there?

Don't we already have this in Broadlands ?? [:p] Leash ..what is that ?? Why not allow the dog to choose which lawn to ruin by allowing them to run all over by themselves .... ( at least that is what is going on around southernwalk )

That is terrific news, as it seems the old Ashburn Farm group became inactive? One of the biggest things we miss from our days in Arlington are the dog parks (officially "off leash exercise areas"). They are great for socializing and exercising dogs, and for making new human friends too!

Is this new group picking up where the old one left off? There had been a proposal before the County to put the dog park somewhere near the current end of Claiborne Parkway in Ashburn Farm, although in my opinion there are some suitable spaces in Broadlands as well.

Note that one major requirement for a successful dog park is making sure (mostly through self-policing and peer pressure) that all users are responsible and pick up anything their dogs leave behind! In Arlington, the County provides and empties the garbage bins, but the park users must keep it clean or else the County will shut the park down.

Speaking of dogs running around ruining peoples lawn. I saw a dog this morning (after noticing the pile of gravel was gone) on Village roaming around all by itself, no owner in site. I was with my kids so I wasn't going near it! I'm so sick of dogs roaming free!

Yay!!! So excited about a Dog Park! We had on in Reston and it was great.

This whole dog owner flaming is getting old, fast! I am out walking our dog all the time (yes, we pick up after it!). We have covered a lot of mileage in this community and I agree there's some poop, but it's not as awful as everyone makes it out to be. Most of the other dog walkers I see pick up after their pets too. So please don't flame all of us!

And Hazy - I really don't think people are just letting their "dogs roam around." We're in the old section of Broadlands and I *never* see this. Are you sure they don't have an Invisible Fence? If you see one roaming around, you should call Animal Control.

I'm positive it wasn't an electric fence since it was in a common area! I see the same few dogs loose several times a week. On one occasional I saw the owner call the dog to the door and tell him/her to "get out there and do your thing".

We live in the Courtyard single family homes on Milford Drive, and so we back up against the VanMetre townhomes that branch off Village Drive. There is an owner in that community that consistently plays frisbee fetch with his little dog in common areas with no leash, and also just lets it roam around. There were numerous occasions last year where the dog was roaming in the common areas, and if they saw the little dog running around untethered, it would drive our two very large (90 lbs) dogs absolutely nuts within our fenced backyard. I am watching this year to see where the dog lives, so I can make a formal complaint. In the meantime, if anyone knows the guy please tell him to leash his dog! Unless you have a fenced yard, it's both an HOA requirement and the law in Loudoun County!

Let's bring on the dog park!

That is bad. You guys should alert Animal Control that this is going on and they will come by. Especially if you can tell them some estimated time frames.

How about keeping a dog in the garage? I've noticed a neighbor nearby that seems to keep their dog in a large cage inside the garage. It seems like this would be a problem in both hot and cold days. Any law prohibiting that?

In the garage? That's so sad! Poor dog. They should find the dog a new home if the best they can do is leave it in there. At least take the dog to doggy daycare.

The group that is working on a Dog Park will meet again on Tuesday (4/19/05). As soon as the location is known, this will be posted.

There was an article in the Loudoun Connection this week about the push for a dog park in Loudoun County. The POC in this post is differs from the paper. Are these the same groups of people?

I'm all for having a local dog park because driving out to the one in Reston is getting old...

i keep my dog in a cage in my garage in southern walk. if you don't know the details behind that you should mind your own business. my dog has fresh water at all times is walked every 2 hours and is picked up after. he is just a pup 10 months old and cannot be trusted in the house and i feel the garage is a better choice than a small crate until he gets through his chewing stage. my dog is free in the house when we are home and not kept in the garage during extreme tempatures. why don't you get your facts straight before you go commenting on how I treat my dog. the subject matter was about dogs running loose and people not cleaning up after their dogs, both of which i do not do!
