Double-agree. I thought for the longest time a neighbor was letting their dog on my lawn to pee and poo. I even saw the neighbor let his dog, loose, out the front door while just standing and watching as the dog trotted across the street to go in a neighbor's garden.

But... after finding raccoon poo in my lawn a few times (thank you to the nature center for having a model of it that showed me what I was deling with), I think it was raccoons burning my lawn. I just sucked it up, put down some lawn patch, and once the grass re-grew, haven't had a problem since.

As for burning lawns -- if you want to be really conscientious about it, carry a large bottle of tap water with you. When your dog wees, pour enough water on the spot to dilute it. Then it won't burn. My dogs have been weeing in the back yard for months now, I hose it down after every wee, and I don't have a single brown spot on my back lawn....

But it is YOUR lawn, not someone else's.

    You missed my point.
Since people were complaining earlier about killing lawns. I was just offering a tip.

If I had to weigh in with an opinion, it would be this: a homeowner should not have to ask a dog owner to please keep their dog from urinating on their lawn. Dog owners should have the good sense to keep their dogs off other people's lawns. A homeowner should not have to be in the position to ask for that courtesy.

I agree with you Technosapien. We never let our dog go on people's lawns. I was called lazy and rude (a few pages ago) because we let our dog walk in the strip between the sidewalk and the street (where the fire hydrants are located), which Cliff pointed out is not owned by the homeowners. I have never had a homeowner even so much as give me a dirty look, let alone need to ask us not to walk there. Your idea of carrying a bottle of water is actually much better than someone calling considerate dog owners lazy and rude.

I will say I try to keep my dogs off those little strips between the street and sidewalk, if they're in front of a house... but I also live in a townhome where one good wee from a large dog can kill the entire curb strip for a single unit... eek.
