Those were probably the doctors and nurses who worked at the hospital around the corner.

I actually hope there is SO much traffic going to the new Dollar Tree that the property management firm will install a driveway into that parking lot from Claiborne Parkway so we don't have to make a right onto Broadlands Blvd then a left into the parking lot and snake your way all the way around. At least it would save half the aggravation of getting to that side of the shopping center even if you DO have to exit back onto Broadlands Blvd. :)

Actually, you're wrong. It was approved about 3-4 years ago; it's an entrance only, one lane, coming in where the Starbucks is. Don't know what the hold up is, but someone told me they saw markings in the grass there in the last week, so maybe they're finally moving forward with the project.

A party city style store is opening soon, I forget which plaza but we definitely needed one of those. We had two different "charming" little gift shops fail in that plaza for lack of support. Ashburn pretends to want high end businesses but then complains about the prices and sneaks to Wal-Mart in the middle of the night.
When I was in the review writing biz one of the biggest private complaints I heard over and over was"don't you think it's over priced?"

I shop pretty infrequently, so I've never minded paying more for better. I'd go to a dollar tree for party favor bubbles but other wise I really have no use for dollar tree stuff. But I bet it succeeds here, plenty of crafty types & people with small kids who can use that stuff will love it!

A few years ago I hosted a pretty large party using dollar store supplies (NO ONE JUDGE ME!). You'd be surprised at what they have. Platters (same platters that Wegmans has for $4 each), cutlery, tablecloths, plates, centerpieces. I saved a boatload of money because I needed a ton of supplies. I overbought actually, and am still bringing platters of things to neighborhood parties and "accidentally" forgetting them.

I don't know what I did above but I magically inserted my comment in my reply to Redon's post. I'm talented that way.:)

I created centerpieces for a wedding at a little over $7 each, and they were awesome. Everything except flowers came from Dollar Tree - and the flowers I got from Costco.
Don't stick your nose up, if you haven't tried it.

Residents do have a say of what businesses end up in their neighborhood. Most people don't understand the power they hold especially in large numbers.

Although I do find it strange to complain about a dollar store when the quality businesses are in the minority.

    I'm excited about a Dollar Store/Tree whatever.
:offtopic: I moved my 90 year old parents here from Annapolis last June. You can see them a lot at the Safeway mostly in the cookie aisle.
They are Dutch and from Holland, lived through WW2, my mom nearly starved to death and worked for the railroad with her dad until the Nazi's took over
My dad spent most of the time in a prison camp in northern Germany working on construction projects.

Anyway, they are soooo cheap. My mom and dad will love this store. I think we might be going here twice a week.
My mom had a stroke, so if you see two oldsters hobbling around holding each other up, that will be my mom and dad.
My mom is always happy, and My dad is deaf as can be as his hearing aid batteries are always dying when he is out and about.

Where is the Safeway, this plaza? I needed a Dollar Store a few weeks ago and had to drive to Sterling.

The Dollar Store will be in the same shopping center that the Safeway is. That shopping center is on Claiborne Parkway, just before the exit to the Greenway.
The Safeway is at the east end of the shopping center, Safeway also owns the gas station there. There is also a small pet store and a Postal Solutions store... that is superb, by the way.
At the west end of the shopping center is the USPS (they open late, close early and even take an hour for lunch), Starbucks and now this Dollar Store.
Are they open yet? Any one know?

Loved reading this. You have to give them credit for what they've been through. Glad to hear they are still out and about. My parents have passed away, but they were also from the "greatest generation". Very frugal, because they went through a period of time when they had nothing. My mother-in-law would stuff ketchup packages from fast food places in our kitchen drawers.

I could open a taco bell stand with all the Fire packets in my kitchen drawer! Old habits die hard, I grew up with a mother who did the same with napkins, ketchup and sugar packets. :)

Ha Ha, I still catch myself keeping the packets of soy sauce from Chinese take-out even though I have a Costco-sized bottle in the pantry!
