MOM's Organic Market has a recycling center for those items you typically throw out in the trash such as toothpaste tubes, bubble wrap, health and beauty packaging such as deodorant, Brita Filters, chips and snack bags, as well as batteries, light bulbs, blue jeans, etc. They advertise compost/food scraps but I don't' think the Herndon store accepts it yet. If you have a mind to do a little extra sorting, you can reduce your trash output tremendously and help the planet.

You can find the complete list here

I realize not many people may want to go all the way to Herndon for groceries. Am loudly wondering if it would be useful to set up a collection bins for some of those items right here in Broadlands, and have a set of volunteers that will transport these items? I'd be happy to help take them when I can!

It's a good idea but also a big headache. Where would the bins be stored? It could create a very messy and unsanitary situation if it's not monitored. Also doubt the HOA would consider partnering with TerraCycle, however, it would be great program for a school or Church to adopt. https://www.terracycle.com/en-US/

Don't disagree. Just raised it as an idea.. to see if this is worth a discussion. For example - the nature center is staffed most days, if they are willing to take up the additional responsibility to monitor it, if we could set something up near there, possibly.
