Any opinions or suggestions on local dry cleaners, related to price and service?

I was considering posting the same question. :) None of the ones around here seem to do the cleaning on-site so I wonder if they all send it off to the same place. If so, then it just comes down to price. :( I wish we had a nice 1hr/same day place around here.

Another option is to check with your office. I know at my place of work, I can drop off clothes in the morning when I come into work, and pick it up when leaving at the end of the day. It's quick, and I don't need to drive anywhere; I just walk to the end of the main lobby...

Best dry cleaner in the area is in Countryside, near CVS. On premise cleaning. Never had a problem. The one near Giant isn't good with delivering on time, and since cleaning is off premise, if it's not ready on time it is not there.

Yes but very expensive. We had been using a drycleaning depot so paid like a $1.05 or something like that per item. Then we moved and used the one by Giant and the one by Safeway when it opened and paid big time.

We have used the Safeway dry cleaner. We found the customer service really slow, but in all fairness it is Safeway employees writing up tickets for Bergmans cleaners. We have tried Bergmans at other Safeways but the shirts always seem wrinkled and recently one of the suits still had a big crease in the jacket. Additionally they have recently adopted the practice of attaching the id tag to the shirt with those nameless plastic things. This requires you to cut it off and makes holes in the shirts.

We have switched to the dry cleaner nextdoor to the Safeway. They do a nice job but they seem pricey to me. Might keep looking.

I've used the dry cleaner by Shopper's in Ashburn Farm since it opened and have had very good luck with them.

I've used the cleaners by Food Lion for a couple of years. I'm happy with both the cleaning and the alterations I've had done there. I believe that the cleaners shop next to Safeway is owned by the same people -- both addresses were on the receipt I got when I dropped off my cleaning a couple of weeks ago. They aren't the cheapest around, but they are less expensive than the cleaners by Giant. And the quality of the cleaning and alterations is much better.

My findings, so far. I took two pairs of pants and five shirts (hangers) to Safeway (Bergmann's) and Ashburn Farm Cleaners (near Giant)

Total cost at Bergmann was $12.83. AF Cleaners was 15.65.

Service was quicker and better at AF Cleaners. They have check in automated, which is nice. Offer next day service. Bergmann was slow, and was manual paper ticket check in. Do not offer next day.

Haven't gotten items back to compare quality.

Has anyone used Zoots.com? Here is their price list. The same "batch" of clothes would cost $17.05. And they pick-up and deliver. Three day turn around.

    LAUNDERED DRESS SHIRTS
    On Hangers $1.35
    Folded, please add: $0.40

    DRY CLEANING
    Slacks/Pants $5.15
    Skirt $5.15
    Blouse/Dry Cleaned Shirt $5.80
    Sweater $5.95
    Jacket/Blazer $6.75
    Two Piece Suit $10.30
    One Piece Dress $10.30

You can either have them do the regular service, or a by request pickup by phone, e-mail, or their website.

Post experiment/experience report. We are all getting ripped off, prices are out of control. Ashburn Farm Cleaners had the best quality. Bergmann's albeit cheaper, use a terrible tagging system. I'll never return because of it. They use plastic connectors, similar to sales tags. Impossible to remove without sissors.

Yes, I agree those plastic connectors are a pain and require scissors to cut; however, Safeway/Bergmann's launders shirts for .89 versus 1.35 at the Junction shopping center cleaners. I don't know what the prices are at the other cleaners in "our" shopping center, but for the convenience and savings, Bergmann works for me.
