Has anyone bought/used one of the Dyson vaccums? We've had a Kirby for 10-11 years and it's just not working as well as it used to in many ways.

I'd love to hear what you have to say. We have two cats and regular vaccuums do not pick up their shedding hair very well from our rugs.

Great. You can turn off the roller head to just suck stuff up.

I have to jump in on the Dyson too - I had the yellow one, and ended up giving it to my brother after a few years so I could get the Animal. Great attachments, runs like a beast on carpet and hardwood- and the stairs are a breeze. Definately recommend it!

i thought the only difference between the yellow one and the animal is just the attachments, no? if there are other differences i'd love to hear them because we were set to buy a yellow one. seeing as we have a very hairy beast (he's part husky!) - should i rethink this?

the biggest difference is just the bundling.. what you get with it. I think only the dc7 is the one that doesn't have the telescoping wand. The rest all have pretty much the same core hardware, just different options included. Warrenties are longer on some models as well.

color isn't important.. its the dc7 vs dc14 vs dc17 that are main seperators. If I remember when I bought mine, you have to really compare the options - they mix things up to differentiate the lines a bit. maybe they've simplified it a bit now.

I have the yellow one. The only thing I don't like about it is the process you have to go through to use an attachment. On my Hoover, I could quickly tug the hose out from the body and use it by itself or with an attachment. On the Dyson, I have to pull the wand all the way out of the hose first, then slide it back in when I'm finished.

The yellow Dyson didnt come with the cool attachments, but I believe everything else is the same, except color of course. Love the purple. The attachments are nice, a good stair tool, and nice hard floor tool that lets you get under furniture.
If you have a long haired dog, I would definately get the Animal. It also has a furniture attachment that works really well. My dogs have short hair, but it does get every where. The Dyson sucks it right up.

I am so happy I bought the Dyson too, and I have the #15 Ball model. I wasted money on two other vacuums thinking that the Dyson was too expensive... but this really is a case of you get what you pay for. The Dyson is awesome, great suction and the attachments work great for my use (no pets). The only funky thing with the model 15 is the static electricity discharge from the handle occasionally, when on thick carpet.

Dyson works great on carpet and hardwood floors for two Golden Retrievers and a shaggy 14-year-old son!

We have the Dyson, and does a pretty good job picking up pet hair, dirt etc. But the best part is the clever way that the attachments work, how easy it is to empty and clean!

the beater bar in mine gets 'clogged' way too easy though. Anyone know how to pull the beater bar out? The drive belt doesn't slide off the end without presumably doing something else in an area I can not see. Without pulling the belt off, you can only man-handle the beater bar around a bit.

Our's gets clogged up with long human hair wayyyy to quickly.
