I had the purple animal and it leaked dust where the piece on the bottom connects. Thought it was a flaw so brought it back and got another same problem. I was in Bed and bath today and looked at there purple animal that was on display but was used as a test model in the store. Same thing there was dirt and dust where this tube connects to the machine. I also did not find it any better then my cheap hoover. Which I bought after running into a guy who does office cleaning for living a year ago or so and he taught me all about vacuums since he said he has used them all and found the ones with the least amount of tricks or another words the simpler the better. I also find the wheels on the dyson too close to the sides and it also leaves lines in the carpet from the brush as do most vacuums do, but my hoover does not. It was cheap and simple and cleans as good as any vacuum I have had except the Central vacuums are the best tho when it comes to overall performance. Just my two cents in my disappointment on Dyson.

Before we moved here I had a central vac (in Boston -- GO SOX!) I loved my C.V. for my hardwoods, but still used my Dyson on the carpet.

    Flynnibus-
I have really long curly hair, and it gets wrapped around the bar too. I have to clean it every 2 weeks or so. I just flip the thing over, and use a sharp pair of sissors and cut it out. It takes awhile, but it works. I'm afraid if I take it apart, I wont be able to get it back together. Not terribly good at that sort of thing...

That's what I've been doing.. using a pocket knife like blade to cut it and then pull it out. Just seems like there should be an easier way :)

Has anyone had to get their Dyson Vaccuum fixed? We had a moving mishap and it will not suck properly without manually pushing down a broken piece on the right side. I am thinking of taking it to Sears? Has anyone had a vaccuum fixed at Sears? I am hoping it will not cost too much.

My husband has figured out how to take the beater bar out and clean it, I can post instructions from him when he gets back from a business trip. I know it involves using a screwdriver to get the belt back around the bar. One time we had to take our Dyson in for repair, but we purchased an extended warranty through Best Buy.

well, what drives me crazy? the damn cord always reels itself out, when I don't need but a small amount. so I always end up having to rewind it all. I have noticed it doesn;t do a good jon on the stairs. After using the handheld which died halfway up , then getting the animal out and using the pole, I still had to pick up things with my hands. It didn't pick up things my 13 yr old G4 Kirby does - even after emptying it out - which is another issue when the dust cloud comes up, and I have to wipe down the area around where it was dumped.

this is with your Dyson? Shocking our handheld last about 8 minutes before giving out.

Last year we put in hardwood stairs and in the upper level, our Dyson (Animal/Purple model) is going strong with 5+ years of service. Couldn't be happier.

Check your flexible tubing for signs of cracking, tearing, etc, at the joints. This happened to ours a few years ago and a quick call to the Dyson warranty line had a replacement part on its way to us via 2-day delivery.
