Spelling "bourgeois" correctly is a common trait of hoi polloi.

Just got back from working the polls at Hillside. We had an outstanding turnout!!!!!

Even though the line was around the school at 6:00 by 7:30 it was gone! The poll chiefs really did a good job in designing the flow. Fortunately we had sufficient polling officials to allow four poll books instead of the usual two. That helped a lot.

But what helped the most was the voters. Every one seemed patient and understanding. They helped us keep the flow moving by having their ID out and voting quickly. Excellent people.

This was my first time as an official and it won't be my last. It was hard work, but great work. If anyone is considering becoming an election official, please sign up. It was a great group of people all working to make Democracy work.

Now to get some sleep. 16 hours working the polls sure takes the ginger out of me. :)

Kinda makes you proud to be an American.

I think the paper ballots are fine (sans the drama about their printing from time to time) as long as they use the scanning to make counting efficent.

What I think is arcaic is the 'book' lookup. The books are what makes us break into letter groups rather then just 'next available agent'. The books can be slow.

Why can we not just swipe our driver's license? I mean.. they've only had barcodes for over a decade. And in the age of instant search... poll workers can't just type in info and find a list of matches or close matches? I mean.. the first hit rate would be so high the speed-up and flexible poll workers (vs name lines) would help so much and would not affect the voting process itself at all.

I stood in my F-L line for about 15mins while the other lines were either empty (lucky S-Z people) or went through 3 full lengths before I got up to the desk.

Or here's another suggestion...(and one I don't understand why the airlines don't do either) is simply an 'escalation desk'. If the agent can't resolve the person's issue quickly, they should pass the trouble to another who is dedicated just to handle those cases, rather then stopping the entire line for that one person. But we get back to the lame books which would make that not possible.

Thank you soooo much for the hot cider, it was wonderfully timed. It was cold and wet out there all day. Unfortunately many of our beautiful sample ballots got wet, making it hard for people to see how to properly mark up a ballot, but with people who vote in Hillside being very smart it turned out not to be a problem at all, and we all helped vote in the new President-Elect.

The turnout at Hillside was over 80%, but even with that, after the morning line which was very long there was no more outside line. Even the morning line was gone very fast once they opened up the building. Excellent organization on the part of the election officials. I was very impressed.

Most everyone was very very nice and appreciative. Having the chairs there helped in the morning, but because the precinct worked so efficient we didn't need them for the voters in the afternoon.

Thank you all for coming out to vote. :)
