Here's the information from the flyer which I sent to the Tech. Committee this morning. I told them I'd have it much earlier and they've been waiting for it for details...

The Broadlands Habitat Team is having the first Broadlands Fall Festival on Saturday, November 15th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the corner of Broadlands Blvd and Glebe View.
Park on the surrounding street and head for the Blue Tents. The grass is rather muddy so don't park off the street. It's amazing how quickly you'll create deep ruts and get stuck.

At 12:00, see living birds of prey, presented by the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia. (birds of prey include owls and hawks, which is what we requested.)
At 1:30, learn how Nature gets ready for winter, on a hike led by Audubon Naturalist Bill Cour.
At 3:00, learn about the Community Wildlife Habitat Program at a discussion with the National Wildlife Federation.

From 1:00 – 3:00 pm, get advice on transplanting trees from Arborist Barbara Lupfer, ask representatives from Blue Mount Nursery and Beaver Creek Nursery your landscaping questions and learn how you can help Keep Loudoun Beautiful from members of the county group Keep Loudoun Beautiful.

This is also the Broadlands Tree Rescue, where residents are able to rescue small trees, plants and rocks from a development area for transplanting in your yard (bring shovels).
Many trees are identified and tagged so you'll know what you're getting even though the leaves are long gone. A truck will be available to help you get items to your home.
We've tagged red bud, oak, pawpaw, dogwood, sycamore and some others. Cedar trees are in another section and we didn't tag them as they are the only evergreen in that area.

We're using the land purchased by HCA for the proposed Broadlands Regional Medical Center. There are more redbuds in that section then any other section I've seen so we asked permission to use their land. Representatives from HCA will be there for any residents who might have questions about the proposed hospital location (they have the corners marked and can give tours).

For kids, there will be a scavenger hunt geared toward getting ingredients to make a terrarium (moss, small rocks...) The scavenger hunt will be fun, even if you don't want to make a terrarium.

It's outside, so dress for the weather. We'll have hot chocolate mix to help kids stay warm, and coffee and tea (and hot choc.) for adults. Brownies and cookies too.

If you have any questions, you can contact the HOA at 703.729.9704.

    See you there -
