Cliff, I agree.

My dad was a naval ATC for 23 years. He loved his job and still loves planes, I know he wants to get his pilot license one day too. However, the job of an ATC is unbelievably stressful. They shoulder the responsibility of hundreds of lives every day and that stress takes a toll on their (the ATC's) body. My dad now suffers for high blood pressure because of his 23 year service, which he gets disability for from the navy. I can remember my dad coming home and sharing some of the horrible incidents with my mom. I heard on more than one occasion how he step in and replaced another ATC and guided two planes away from each other before they crashed into one another. And my dad worked very long hours also.

We do not need people from Craigs List guiding our airplanes! It's a hard job and not just anyone can do it. I'm scared as is to be on an airplane, hearing how dire the situation is with the ATCs now makes my upcoming trip even harder for me to take.

I want someone seasoned and well rested guiding my plane and those planes around me. I would want that extra $50k employee there.

I also agree that if someone knows that the laws/rules and regulations governing the ATCs are being broken something should be done.

 

Unfortunately, it's the lawsuits and tens of millions more in taxpayer dollars paid out that gets things fixed.
