I got a letter from Verizon saying my Fios bill is going to increase on May 1, 2010 by $10. I have the ExtremeHD package. I spoke with Verizon to confirm this and found out that in addition to being charged an additional $10/month, they have moved a bunch of channels that were in the ExtremeHD package to the UltimateHD package.

So, basically the rates for the ExtremeHD package is going up, while the number of channels in that package is going down!

Of course, they encourage you to "upgrade" to the new (and more expensive) UltimateHD package, and lock-in for 2 more years!

Maybe it's time to revisit Comcast??

Hmmm, I didn't get such a letter, but I'll keep my eyes open. I did notice that they were now offering new packages...

I guess one year TRIAL price is over ... You can always play Comcast versus FIOS to extend your TRIAL perid price ...

    <JamesEarlJonesVoice>Welcome to Verizon...</JamesEarlJonesVoice>

As much as I don't like the cable company... I trust Verizon even less. The cable company tends to be incompetent... Verizon tends to be evil.

Big Dog, looking at their lineups online I'm having a hard time figuring out what they're taking away from the ExtremeHD package to move to the UltimateHD package. Got a list, or some examples?

    Thanks!

2 channels I noticed were Tennis channel and MAVTV. I didn't compare the whole package. But I watch the Tennis channel every day. So, now I need to pay about $16/ month extra to get the channels I already had (upgrade to Ultimate). Or I can keep my current, downgraded service (new ExtremeHD) for an additional $10/month.

From my chat session with customer service:
Me (12:07:23): I saw that there are channels removed from the extreme and are now on the ultimate. Are you saying my rate is going up and some of the channels I get now will disappear May 1?
    Ebony(12:08:39): Yes
    Ebony(12:08:44): that is correct.
Me (12:10:13): Is that a good way to keep customers happy?
Ebony (12:10:33): I apologize, I do not make the decisions.
Ebony (12:10:49): I have FiOS an have lost channels as well.

I guess it was supposed to make me feel better that even the employees are getting a worse deal?!

How is the comcast service now? I had dish network before fios, but I would consider comcast if they have anything interesting (HD, High-Speed Internet).

few months ago, when I renewed my contract, I got the extreme HD package. The contract is extended only for one year, with 2 year price guarantee..

I haven't received any letter from FIOS about this. I don't think they will increase the price in my case as I have 2 year price guarantee.

Is your contract getting over in April end?

I was out of contract for FIOS internet only and the rates went up like $7/month. I called, haggled, got no place, then asked if they put me under contract what would the rate be. For a 1 year contract they lowered it $10.

Funny, they never tell you this when you complain about the rate increase. In this case, I had to specifically ask.

Sorry guys Verizon did NOT attend the last Cable & OVS meeting...so I didn't have a heads up on the new rates and their new channel line up. Our next meeting is in a few weeks and I will inquire about your issues and post updates

However I am going to post (on a separate thread) Comcast NEW rates.
