    Hello Broadlanderinis,

I have some furniture to donate and curious if Anyone know of charity that will pick up? I'm getting old and I don't want to risk an injury .

Try Purple Heart - Great organization helping veterans (and Purple Vets especially:

"WE ESPECIALLY NEED CLOTHING, SMALL APPLIANCES, TOYS AND OTHER HOUSEHOLD ITEMS. WE CAN USE JEWELRY, POTS & PANS, DISHES, UTENSILS, KNICK-KNACKS, SPORTING EQUIPMENT, RADIOS, GAMES, RECORDS, LINENS, SHOES, TOOLS AND SOME FURNITURE ITEMS. The Purple Heart Service Foundation can put those unneeded things to good use again. The list is too numerous to list here. Please call (301)277-0063"

They will come and pick it up for you too http://www.purpleheartpickup.org/request.php

The Salvation Army will, but I DON'T recommend them -- had a terrible experience a few years ago, and unless they've revamped their practices, I will never call them again.

Once you get someone to take it please post the information here. I have quite a bit of stuff to get rid of in the coming months.

AmVETS has always done pick up for me for years. They take just about anything so they should work for you. I happen to know they are comming to Broadlands to do pick ups this Friday so if you call you can probably get them to pick up for you too.
    Their number is 800 526 8387

    Hope that helps

Had Salvation Army pick-up a couple of couches, bed frames, china cabinet, coffee tables, etc. last week. The pick-up timeframe was 10:00 - 2:00, they showed up at 2:30. Other than that no complaints and now more room in the house.

    Good morning all!

thanks for the great recommendations. I will call these places today.

I thought about it but, I figure I could get "more" as a tax write off.

    Quick update -

Purple Heart does not want furniture (at all or maybe for now...I did not ask)

So I scheduled a pickup for AMVets.

After pickup, I will provide an update.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

We called AmVets and they are in the neighborhood Friday for normal items. They are taking our old kitchen table next Wednesday, they indicated that they don't take Furniture at the same time as the other items.

I have to echo disappointment at the Salvation Army. I called for a very large donation -- we cleaned up our basement. I got nothing but grief from the Salvation Army when I called. They seemed to think that because it was a lot of stuff that was bad, which doesn't make any sense to me. Then they failed to show up on the scheduled day.

Okay, so Amvets stood us up on both pickup days! The worst part is that the items we left out on Friday were put out as we left town for the weekend... well needless to say it rained and everything was ruined... so instead of a donation... I got to trash everything. I am not very happy.

The only thing I can figure is that we live in the new section of townhomes in SW and that AmVets hasn't updated their drivers maps. You would think they could call, but, who knows.
