We've been thinking about replacing our GE gas cooktop. We like it, but the drip-pan and burners are showing some wear. (Sorry--total neat freak here!). We could do one of two things: replace the whole unit ($) or just replace the drip-pan and burners. Though I have looked around, I cannot find any place that just sells the replacement parts (specifically, the drip-pan and burners). Does anyone have ideas?

I use Tribles in Sterling. They are not the cheapest but they have parts for almost any appliance. I have replaced drier, refrigerator, and cooktop parts through them. Call them first with your model number handy. The may have to get the part from thier warehouse (1-2 day delay).

ehoward: Thanks! I keep going back and forth (replace vs. buy new) on this issue. I can't see replacing the whole thing for just a very minor cosmetic issue. So, I'll check out Trible's. Thanks again!

You can also purchase replacements parts directly from GE's website.

Wait!!!! Don't purchase it just yet, the same happened to us. We simply called GE, and expressed we were dissatisfied with the premature deterioation. We were close to the end of our one year warranty, they hesitated a bit but agreed to it in the end. After all this should not happen that soon! Look for their phone number on the edge of any of your appliances if not send a message. Good Luck

I am so glad that I asked this forum! All the recommendations were great. Our cooktop is priced at $900 new on the GE website. However, replacing just the grates and drip pans costs nearly $400! Trible's quote was about the same.

I'll call GE directly and describe our problem (our cooktop is still under warranty) and post back here afterwards. (Thanks for the tip, duda1835).

    Thanks again, everyone!

I called GE and they sent me all the replacement parts (grates, burner caps, rubber feet, etc). They did not replace the actual cooktop, but I have all new shiny parts sitting in boxes in my basement.

Did you just call GE customer service and they readily agreed to send you the parts or did you have to haggle with GE to make them send those replacement parts without charging you?

We have a similar problem and we are still under the first year warranty. When I called GE customer service today to tell them about the problem I was told that such "cosmetic issues" are not covered under warranty after 30 days. We have just used the cooktop for less than 4 months. Just wondering whether you had to do something special for GE to send you the replacement parts as it looks like they will never replace the entire cooktop.

I did not do anything special. I was under my one year contract when I called GE and told them my grates were cracking. I also told them that the burner caps were discolored and were impossible to clean. The customer service agent took down my information and sent me all new parts. I can tell you that he was not happy about it and in fact he was some what rude. In the end I got my replacement parts, but I'm still not happy with GE or it's products.
