I just got a quote from one contractor to remove the existing gas stove cooktop on my island and replacing it with a new one....for $1,000!!!! This doesn't even require installation of a new gas line as its already below the gas cooktop. What a shocker! That's just for the gas cooktop only!!!! WHOAH.....:eek::eek::eek::screwy:

Am looking for recommendations from people around the neighborhood that know of a contractor that can do this type of work. Additionally, Im looking to have someone remove and install a new electric wall oven as well.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks to all!

To add to my conversation: The county offices told me that the Gas permit to do this work should be no more than $70 bucks but this contractor that came to my house quoted 200-300 bucks to do the gas permit!!! They are making huge markups just to get the gas permit for you.
