We have an indoor container herb garden and I am looking to add thyme and cilantro. Anyone have any good suggestions where I can find these two plants?

i got some great herbs at marie's (over by costco - at least that's what i call her place!). if you need directions, let me know. you may also want to try the local farmers markets. there's one in reston (lake anne) on sat. mornings, i think one in sterling (behind pier 1/home depot) on sunday mornings, and one in herndon on thursdays. good luck!

I don't know if they still have them, but I've purchased several at Home Depot! And they've been good plants too.

I wouldn't bother w/ the farmers' markets, unless it is a last resort. At least the one is Sterling stank when I went the other week, and I paid $3 for a little basil plant at the one in Middleburg last week... You might call around to the bigger nurseries (Merrifield comes to mind), and ask.

thanks for the suggestions -- I have gotten a bunch already at home depot and have been pleased -- they just simply don't carry the two that I need.

Why not try DeBaggio's Herb Farm (www.debaggioherbs.com) off Route 50 for unusual varieties of herbs. They have over 300 different types of herbs, (i.e. 22 interesting varieties of Thyme, 31 varieties of Basil, 31 varieties of Lavender, 16 varieties of Rosemary, and so on, originating from all over the world). Each each variety has it's own unique characteristics.

A couple things I like about DeBaggio's are that (a) they say they use only organic methods to grow fresh herbs, so no pesticide chemicals involved, and (b) they have full descriptions of the subtle nuances (scent, performance, preferred growing habits, etc.) on file for each interesting variety of herb/vegetable in their online PDF plant catalogue/garden guide.

Maybe the owners have more resources to help you find exactly what you need. Last summer, I found a rare variety of Rosemary there that we love to use in a tasty rosemary roasted chicken recipe, yum. Best of luck!
