Forgot to mention that if you also want FREE FRUIT/FREE VEGGIES--post your interest here. I will try to have the list of other produce that I may be bringing back from PA (from my relatives' farms) for myself and any FREE EXTRAS for "y'all".

Also, I will post quantities of any FREEBIES (if there are any) for you to check out. It may not be but beans, tomatoes, corn, or greens.

    Have a good week--

    Blessings--:)

I wonder if we can get a bunch of people with the know-how to can the extra stuff and perhaps donate it to some charity? Would a charity take home canned food?

    webeadams and others--

As far as food donations to food banks/food pantries, you have to go through health code regulations, permits, etc. for homemade food products. However, we are checking into giving FRESH produce to local food banks, etc. Alot of "hoops to jump" sometimes--we shall see.

In the meantime, keep checking back on this post for updates for apples.

    Foodie:)

    Sunny and others--

Thought I would say "thanks" before we get ready to head to PA to our Farmers Cooperative meeting for the week and to visit relatives. I will post what I have in regard to produce soon.

    Blessings--

I would love some apples if they are still available. My daughter & I just made applesauce this weekend- so good! We'll take vegetables too. Thank you for your kindness.

We went to Graves Mountain Apple Fest 2 weeks ago with several other families (about 50 miles south of here).

It was a fun family event, lil pea had a blast he even fell asleep in the stroller and the best thing: FREE PARKING FREE ENTERTAINMENT & FREE ADMISSION.

We (3 peas in the pod) spent $21 for 6 hours of fun. Our cost included: appx 20lbs of Fuji & Goldens - which we picked ourselves, lunch, petting zoo and hay ride.

Highly recommend this for a fall family event.

    Fellow Foodies--

No, we haven't forgotten our promise to deliver fresh apples from our family/ relatives' farms to you. Just been busy with family and other "stuff". I will post or PM to those of you who expressed your interest in our apples (and any other produce that we may have to give away) around 11/14/08 or later.

The apples looks great from my uncle and aunt's farm in PA. I will probably have some apple butter or other "goodies" which I will leave for "y'all" at the Broadlands Nature Center. Definitely before Thanksgiving holidays, you will have some "freebies"! Don't worry apples will last up to 2 to 3 months in a cool and dry area--like a basement or cool pantry area.

I will PM you and leave Maureen a list of the people who contacted me on this thread or by PM for apples. Yes, I still have your names--;)

By the way, if any of you see or hear from Lee, I know he is on the Brambleton forum sometimes, please let him know that he has "dibs" also on the apples if he and Dalyn are interested. He was quite a card--

    On a sidenote--have a safe and happy voting day!

    Blessings--

    Fellow Foodies--

Just thought I would ask "y'all" if you would like a fruit called Kiwi Berry. Kiwi Berries are a "cousin" to the Kiwi Fruit and some our our friends/relatives in PA are offering this great fruit from their farms. I will see if I can obtain some "surplus" from our next trip to PA (before Thanksgiving week) when I pickup some other items. Kiwi Berries are similar in size to the grape family.:)

Web site with links for Kiwi Berries are below--

    www.kiwiberry.com (Kiwi Berry's site/info.)

From our farm, I probably will have some greens (chard, kale, spinach, lettuces), eggs, etc. I will post info on this thread and PM you with details. You will need to bring your own bags.

Also, it may be 2 to 4 bushels of apples (not sure of the varieties yet), homemade apple butter (I made recently; and I will post my recipe), and other "goodies".

Forgot to mention that I may have some pears, carrots (heirloom baby varieties--multi-colored), purple potatoes, blue potatoes, broccoli, and other veggies. I will post info on 11/14/08 and pickup at Broadlands Nature Center will probably be 11/17/08, Monday between 9 am to 5 pm.

If the date changes, I will post here on this thread. I will contact Maureen beforehand with the information, etc.

Also, baked goodies too. Great way for FREE advertising for our upcoming Bulk Foods/Cafe business. "Word of mouth" is always the best advertising--right? :pofl::happygrin:

Have a fun and happy week--

    Charlotte and others--

Thanks for the kind remarks. Yes, the "biz" is coming along nicely. Hope to meet some of "y'all" one of these days--

Here is a link to a Mennonite business in Shippensburg, PA (friends of our relatives owns this business) that we will try to emulate but with an added Cafe/Restaurant. First of all, we are looking to start a web-based business without the meats and fresh veggies/produce portion. Our vendors would direct ship to our customers and we (or I should say I--since husband works full time at NG--but would help in a "pinch"--along with friends/relatives) would just be the "middlemen" for the PA Dutch products. That way our overhead costs are low and we provide the service without a "brick and mortar" store. We still have plans to open a "brick and mortar" store within a year or so.

www.country-pantry.com (Country Pantry's site/info. Well-run Mennonite business similar to our business model.)

    Let me know your opinions.

Apples and veggies probably will be delivered 11/14/08--I will post definite time/place, etc.
    Thanks--

    Fellow Farm Foodies--

We are traveling to PA for farm/family business this weekend; and I will return with apples and "goodies" from our farm and from our relatives' farms.

I will PM you (those of you already PM'd me) and Maureen about delivery time. It will probably be Monday, 11/17/08 after 11:30 am for drop off of apples, etc. at the Broadlands Nature Center. I will PM and post info late Sunday night, 11/16/08. I will contact Maureen to see if this is okay for Monday, 11/17/08 for picking up the apples, etc. Maureen (or her staff) will have a list of who is picking up apples, extras are for everyone else, etc. Just pick up apples and "goodies" by 5 pm Monday, 11/17/08.

There is only 1 bushel of apples to divide up. That is all we can get right now from PA. You will need to BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) to pickup apples, etc.

    I will keep you posted--have a good weekend.

    sharse--;)

We are traveling late now to PA; and I already had your name on the PM list.

    For the rest of "y'all"--

I will also have some carrots from our farm, homemade apple butter, and some baked goods as well as the apples. I will post my apple butter recipe if you would like it after you have tried my homemade apple butter. Please leave some of the apples for others. If there are not enough, I will try to get other apples later if possible.

    Enjoy!

    Blessings--

    Foodie & Family:)
