    Fellow Foodies--

The Nittany Apples, Apple Butter (No Sugar and No Spices), 3# Spring Mix, 10# Baby Carrots, Iced Apple Butter, and the Kiwi Berries have been delivered today to the Broadlands Nature Center. I delivered the "goodies" this morning around 11:30 a.m.

Maureen has the list of the people who requested and PM'd me for the apples. The Nittany Apples are from my aunt and uncle's farm in PA from their orchards. We picked up the apples this weekend in PA when we visited our relatives and attended a Farmers Cooperative meeting Saturday. The Nittany Apples can last up to a month or longer if kept in a cool and dry area. Nittany Apples are a good cooking apple and are tart. Similar to a Stayman Apple.

The Spring Mix and Baby Carrots we grew on our own farm in large hoop greenhouses. I made the Apple Butter (No Sugar or No Spices) and the Iced Apple Bread Thursday, 11/13/08 before we left this past weekend. The Kiwi Berries are similar to a Seedless Grape which my cousins grows on their farm. Try them out. The produce is Organic and great.

Post your opinion(s) of the the food if you would not mind. I was on my way this morning to Fairfax (and just finished a lunch meeting) to meet with our contractors, architects, and other businesspeople regarding our Mennonite Cafe/Bulk Foods business when I dropped off the "goodies". Still meeting to "iron-out" details, etc. Alot of work left to do.

Nothing like "free food and free advertising"--right?

Please bring your own bags and/or containers for the apples and other foods. Thanks again to Maureen and her staff for allowing us to do this. Hubby is at working today and kids at school; so I can do some work on our business plan. Gotta run back to my meeting. Just thought I would post info while I had time--what is that?

    Blessings--

    Fellow Foodies--

Just got home from a long meeting--anyway--hope everyone picks up their apples, etc. If there are any leftovers of produce, etc., feel free to help yourselves.

Also, if anyone is searching for something (produce and/or food wise) special, let us know, and we will see if we can arrange to have it for you. We don't have to use the Broadlands Nature Center--some other locale is fine.

    Thanks again and enjoy!

Foodie - thanks so much for the goodies. The apples are so crisp, I'll bet you can hear me crunching right now. Carrots are fresh and sweet. Didn't try the spring mix yet, but it will become my lunch tomorrow. The iced apple bread was delicious, too. Thank you so much for your kindness and I can't wait for your Mennonite cafe/store to open.

    Charlotte and others--

Thanks for the "foodie report" on the food items. Did you try the Apple Butter yet? I will post the recipe on the thread "Area Restaurants..." under my post called "Recipe Roundup..." when I get a chance to catch my breath!:)

Below are some web sites and links pertaining to apples and various varieties--enjoy! Note the variety called "Black Amish"--if interested I can order some for you "Apple Lovers" from my aunt and uncle's farm. The Nittany Apples are derived from Penn State University and are a cross between the Golden Delicious and York Imperial apples. Crisp and tart--similar to Stayman apples.

    www.fareshare.net/apple-varieties.html (Fareshare's site/info.)

www.allaboutapples.com (All About Apples' site/info. Interesting and informative info for kids and adults regarding apple varieties, etc. List of orchards in VA and across the USA.)

    lufinarr, christinaandrob, vacliff, and others--

After finally getting kids to bed 2 1/2 hours ago--kids were "wired" from school and our trip to PA--I had time to read your messages. Glad you enjoyed the apples.

luftinarr--The apples are Organically farmed at my uncle and aunt's farm; so maybe that is why you enjoyed them--;) . Getting fresh food from the farm is one of our goals when we open the business next year.

vacliff--If you see Lee or Dalyn or email them--tell them about the "goodies". I guess, Lee, is not around much now. He is quite an interesting character, I bet.

    christinaandrob--Thanks again for the compliments.

    Good night all--

    Foodie

Sunny--Thanks for picking up your apples. Did you try the apple butter?

For those of you haven't had an opportunity to pick up your apples and other "goodies"--please do so at the Broadlands Nature Center since Maureen was so nice and helpful in letting us provide this for you FREE.

So it wouldn't inconvenience the staff and the Nature Center, if "y'all" would like other produce and other items, just PM and we can arrange a time at some future date.

For those of you who tried the apple butter, etc.,--and would like the recipes--I will be happy to post the recipes soon.

The apples, apple butter and breads are gone; there is still a bit of the spring mix left and some carrots.

Foodie, just had to say thank you again. Those apples are delicious. My daughter and I made applesauce today, just apples, water and a bit of cinnamon. No need to even add sugar, they were so sweet. Yum!

    sharse and webeadams--

I can get you apples through the Winter months from PA. We travel about once a month to visit and attend the Farmers Cooperative meetings. If you wish to try Nittany Apples or any other varieties, I can post on this thread what the varieties are and if you wish what the cost would be for a bushel or more.

That way you and others can "split the costs" and I can drop them off at a convenient destination. You can then pay me for the apples in return for the delivery. It would not have to be at the Broadlands Nature Center--I am sure Maureen has plenty to do. Perhaps at the Community Center (across from the Lutheran church near Southern Walk--is this correct?).

I can give you the recipe(s) for the Apple Butter and Iced Apple Bread if you want it. I guess our Mennonite business is a "go"?

Thanks again. If you are looking for other "foodie finds", just PM or post a question on the Forum. I will see what I can do to locate the products for you (from PA or elsewhere).

KP Family--You can also make homemade applesauce in the microwave oven by cutting up apples (chunky or smooth pieces) and "stew" the apples for about 3 t0 5 minutes on medium heat in the microwave oven. Stirring the "stewed" apples until desired consistency. In the South, that is what my grandmother did for us when she made applesauce for us as kids. Add cinnamon sugar if desired.

Thanks again--maybe we'll meet one of these days!

    j3mom and others--

If you still want apples, I can bring some back from my aunt and uncle's farm in 3 to 4 weeks, and I will sell them to "y'all" for what they sell them for which is $30/per bushel for Non-Organic Apples. For the Certified Organic Apples, it is $40/per bushel. I can get different varieties.

Since we travel to PA every 3-5 weeks for a Farmers Cooperative meeting, I can return with PA apples. If you are interested, PM me or post your interest on this thread.

I can also do the apple butter again for FREE. We have plenty and it is easy to make. I will have to charge for the apples since I will be bringing them back from my uncle's farm and repay him for the apples. Just let us know if you are interested. I will post the varieties on this thread if there is interest.

My aunt just emailed me their apple list today for those of you interested in apples from PA. For the Certified Organic Apples--they have Fuji Apples, Gold Rush Apples, Ida Red Apples, Red Delicious, and York Apples. For Non-Organic Apples--they have Gala Apples, Nittany Apples, Honeycrisp Apples, Pink Lady Apples, and Jonathan Apples.

    Thanks again.

    Blessings--
