Today at the Harris Teeter in Broadlands a small committee of Freedom H.S. students arrived and proceeded to empty the shelves of pop tarts. I am talking about ALL of them, hundreds of them. Every box they could get there hands on.

Turns out this resourceful group of entrepreneurs hooked into a loop hold in the HT coupons. They had a $10 coupon from Harris Teeter that took $10 off the purchase of 10 Kellogg products. So by purchasing 10 boxes of pop-tarts (a Kellogg product $1.19 a box) they basically got the poptarts for a steal. They did have to pay 20 cents for taxes plus a couple cents for each box. At the end of that purchase another coupon was spit out by Harris Teeter offering the same $10 coupon. So the cycle began. They cleaned out a whole heck of a lot of poptarts at a 20 plus cent a clip.

When asked these kids said they planned to sell the poptarts at school on the cheap. That's going to turn into a nice profit.

Word has it Harris Teeter smiled at the initiative but eventually said enough is enough. Word also has it these kids had been going to every Harris Teeter between South Riding and Broadlands to execute this plan. Good to see HT has a sense of humor.

Eh, there are better ways to make money. Especially if they have to split up the profits between a group of them. They could probably end up making a heck of a lot more by mowing a couple of lawns each weekend. And what happens if the administration at their school tells them to stop selling them if it becomes a distraction? Then they're stuck with a whole lot of Pop Tart inventory. I hope they REALLY like Pop Tarts ;) I'm sure most parents around here wouldn't mind picking up a couple of boxes at the store for their kids, in which case they're basically "free" if parents are footing the bill.

THey just move teh store off campus. I remember buying Starburst out of locker in elementary school - this kid had a grandma that was in the test market area - she shipped them up by the box full.
