I'm currently at xsport fitness ( http://www.xsportfitness.com) and pretty happy with the facilities but I'd like to find a gym closer to Broadlands.

Anyone have a recommendation? I prefer a place that does not try to push products on members (heart rate monitors, vitamins, training sessions, etc)

    thanks.

If you don't mind paying for it, Lifetime Fitness is spectacular. But I can tell you I will be moving to the new Sport & Health in Brambleton the day it opens. Plus: Rumor has it that we Brambleton residents will receive a resident rate.

    Can't beat a 1 minute commute to a gym!

I second Lifetime Fitness. Our whole family joined and it is definitely worth the price. The whole family can go and enjoy this place! We joined last week and I have been every day since. You could almost spend the entire day there!!

LTF has all that stuff you mentioned, but they don't push it on you. I've been a member since the day it opened and if you don't ask for it, they don't push it on you.

Lifetime fitness, ask for Kyle Peters, he is a good guy and won't steer you wrong.

I like Fitness First. I only need a gym to lift weights and take a couple of classes so all the bells and whistles don't matter to me. What does matter to me is that at Fitness First I can see my own personal trainer rather than one of the gym's staff.

It's also only $30 a month and only five minutes away. Two major pluses for me.

    LifeTime Fitness......

Its a great place.. i love it.
Its expensive than most other gym....if you are going to use classes/swimming pool etc...then its worth joining LTF.

They also have a child care center (2 hrs).

The new sport&health will be open mid 2010 and will be incredible (pre-sale starts in January). It will have everything Lifetime has (yes, indoor and outdoor pool with a kid "splash area"), just on a little smaller of a scale (I believe Lifetime is about 125,000 square feet and this will be about 65,000). It's a bit of a pain in the a** to get to and from, but if you're okay with that...NICE place!

Been to Fitness First and it is actually a nice place if you don't need the bells and whistles. Customer Service isn't really there, but a 15lb dumbell weighs the same everywhere, so if you just need a "gym", that's a great place to start.

Does anyone know if Fitness First always makes you sign a one year contract or do they have options without a contract?

    thank you,

I like Fitness First. I can run there, lift and run back home. It has all the basics. I think they are running a month to month special for new members at $19 per month. Stop by and ask for Jack, he is a no pressure GM. Tell him Steve Campot sent you.

I believe they have month to month options, although you may pay a bit more for it. Lifetime is all month to month. They REALLY get you up front though so you won't want to join there if you plan to quit in a few months for one reason or another.

could anyone provide more details on the day care (age restriction etc) at LFT and how busy is it during the day vs. evening (is there a wait for equipment)?

Actually, much to the chagrin of people like me who signed up shortly after day one thinking they'd get a better price, they now frequently have $0 joining fees. This economy helps folks who are interested in joining a gym!

I'm interested in the S&H too, but recognize it will be smaller. But if it still has all the stuff I use and it a lot cheaper, they'll get my business!

Mornings are busy. There are lots of 9:30 classes and childcare is BUSY. If you go in the early afternoon, the place is empty, as is childcare. Starting around 4:30 or so, childcare gets busy again. But never have I had a wait for equipment or been unable to get into a class, regardless of time of day.

Your son is a perfect age to enjoy himself and you won't need to call ahead for reservations.

Are the pools at Lifetime chlorine-free?

    Thanks for all the responses.

As you're looking at the movie theater, it is going to be in the field to the left. They've already broken ground and there's a sign up.
