I'm looking to touch up some spots left by another contractor on our Hardie siding and am having difficulty locating paint that matches the siding color - Monterey Gray (also called Monterey Taupe I believe). Home Depot couldn't locate a match in the computer and I've called some of the local Hardie siding dealers listed on the James Hardie website without success. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated!!!

Home Depot couldn't recreate the color using the 'color match' computer ??

Have you tried Lowes, or a Sherman-Williams store to see if their computer can come up with the recipe?

No luck at the Depot - have been there three times and was allowed to get on the computer myself. Found a Monterey White and Monterey Cliffs but no Monterey Gray/Taupe. I'll try Lowes and SW - thanks for the suggestions.

Give this guy a call (local JH dealer) and see if he carries the color (it's Monterey Taupe - JH40-20)

Call the James Hardie Siding Products company and they should be able to help you.

Secret always keep a gallon or two from any paint job, makes touching up later simpler. Many times even the same paint mixed later may not match.

I called up there yesterday and spoke to the paint guy who said they couldn't help. I went in person today and was directed to the special order section and a Brian W was able to special order the paint for me from JH.

For anyone interested, it's about $30 a quart. They can also order matching caulk for $8 a tube but, you have to buy a case of 12. I'll stick to regular caulk that can be painted.

    Thanks all.

The lesson here is always go to the manufacturer first and they can help you eliminate the uneccessary steps!

...and another lesson is to ask the builder. I got paint directly from them before I finished the 60 day period and was given "extra" for just such an occassion. The color I have is the khaki brown.... it seems to work well and is also the color they use on the foundation.

While I appreciate all of the responses, no more "lessons" PLEASE : ) VM did not leave us any of the paint nor did they seem to agreeable to providing me with the paint. I contacted James Hardie and they were of no help - hence the convo to which the problem was resolved.

another lesson, when a problem is resolved, let sleeping dogs lie.

Wondering if anyone has more recent experience with Lowes or dare I presume Home Depot? We would really like to get some spots on the foundation painted where the dirt was excavated for our patio. And, no, VM did not leave us with any leftover paint. We also have the Monterey Taupe.

    Thanks!

I took a piece of my siding up to HD and they scanned it. They mixed the color using the highest quality (for HD, that is) outdoor paint. It matches my Montery Taupe perfectly. I have some left over if someone is touching up. They may have saved the mix specs on the can. I'll look tonight and post it.

If you have the mix specs on the can I will be very appreciative! I was by HD a few minutes ago to pick up something else and the paint guy was of no help (go figure).

    Thanks :)
