My son at 2 1/2 yrs of age specifically asks, when I tell him we are going grocery shopping, "are we going to Hawwis Teetah?" because he loves the shopping carts. Does anyone know if they have those for sure at the new HT? I didn't see them last night, but wasn't really looking.

Saw one with a little sign that said "shopper in training." I'm assuming those are the ones you refer to.

Oh yes, they have them at the new HT. I just have to remember not to wear flip flops there as my "shopper in training" hasn't quite mastered the art of stopping before running into the backs of my legs. She had a fun time shopping for snacks to bring to preschool and putting all of that into her cart. I think HT will be our new store for those quick trips instead of Safeway now.

An interesting note for you Starbuck's lovers out there (and they will take over the world) - This new Harris Teeter was suppose to have one. I spoke to management last night and they said that it even has the plumbing set up for one, and was in the plans. At the last minute and the manager has no idea why, they pulled the "buck" from the plans. In it's place they have a coffee machine.

Now those of you that like the "buck" can call or email HT HQ and ask them to put the "Buck" in OR those that are opposed can drink the coffee they provide happy in the knowledge the coffee is free and they saved $3.00. I on the other hand, like to have my designer drink - I am trained to want one, it is my mantra "grande mocha with skim, grande mocha with skim, grande mocha with skim".

I also inquired about the Starbucks, and was told that they are waiting to see how business is going to be. That's weird because it seems like that would bring in more business. But I guess that's just more employees to pay.

On another note, was it only me, or did anyone else feel "turned around" in the store? I'm so used to the produce section being on the right side of the store. No "Biggie" just takes some getting used to.

They are putting in another coffee place in that shopping center that is not starbucks. I don't remember what it's called. I don't really like starbucks so I'm glad that an alternative is going in there. It cracks me up though. In a 5 mile radius there are 3 starbucks. In the safeway shopping center, in the safeway itself, and in Giant by home depot. Do we really need another?

I went to the new HT last night and it was ok. I don't think it will be taking my business from Giant. Of the 3 in the area (safeway, ht, and giant) I like the Giant the best.

Speaking of what will / might come to the new HT .... Redbox will be coming soon to this HT location. ( Talked to the manager directly ) Great news for Redbox users !! One at Giant and one at HT should allow us to have more DVDs ready for rental ... Gotta love it !

I would not call the Starbucks in the Safeway a 'coffee place'. The last 3-4 times I've been there, my neighbor and I had to practically explain to the 'barista' how to make our coffee drinks... When we complained, we were told by Safeway management that all Starbucks' in grocery stores are run by grocery store employees who got some 'training'. So basically, they'll throw a cashier or other employee in there, who has little to no experience...

So, no more 'grocery store premium coffee drinks' for me. I go for the real stuff, prepared by a real barista...

Speaking of, I went last night (opening day) and their "Natural" ground beef was 1/2 off b/c the expiration date was that day. So I bought the last two and froze them.

Unlike the Ashburn HT, this HT has integrated it's organic products within the rest of the it's products. It threw me off b/c I'm used to Wegman's and Safeway's "sections" but I kind of like it b/c if I don't see an organic product I like, I can just buy the regular one instead w/out going clear accross the store. My husband just told me that Wegman's wants to integrate it's organic products as well. Not sure where he read that but it makes sense.

I'll keep a watch on the prices, I'll most likely split my shopping between Wegman's and HT.

I also alternate between Safeway, Costco and Wegmans.

Love Wegmans best and always feel like the place is clean and fresh.
I think the prices are the best too. Only negative is that it is often too crowded and hard to get down aisles sometimes with all the people and stocking pallets, boxes, etc.

Costco is great too (esp Leesburg location) but only negative for me are those darn new milk containers--does anyone else think that is a bad design? It always dribbles when I pour it!

I prefer Safeway over Giant and I think Harris Teeter is too expensive compared to the other places so I don't even go there--though the child carts really do sound cute!

A good selection of stores is great but I'd almost prefer just a couple places so that we'd be sure to have fresh products. Better be sure to check expiration dates with all these stores in a few mile raidius. And isn't the new Target (by Wegmans) going to be a SuperTarget with MORE groceries?????

An Ashburn Trader Joes would be GREAT!

The Safeway 'barista' didn't even know how to make the Tangerine Fruit Frappachino correctly. It took her 3 tries with me telling her twice that it was incorrect. And I would have given up but I'd already paid before she started trying to mix the wrong ingredients.

Yes, totally agree. We don't bother going to Wegmans anymore unless it is right when they open...too crowded. The people there have terrible shopping cart etiquette. Almost as bad as the Sterling Costco...

I am looking forward to trying the new HT. Has to be better than the Safeway.

I just got 2 pounds of beautiful strawberries there for $1.88!!! Can't beat that price anywhere. I won't buy strawberries at Safeway for ANY price. That or their green beans. They're always nasty.

I didn't buy any, but HT also has Pepsi 12 packs for $1.88. So as you said, they have some great sales every week.

I stopped in @ Safeway after work tonight to grab some milk. I swear that there was only one other shopper in there, which is very unusual for that time of day. I guess everyone was @ the Teeter. Tried the Brambleton Harris Teeter when it just opened. Thought that they were the highest price, even worse than Giant. Never went back. Will probably try Broadlands one, at least until we use the 20 dollars off 50 coupons.
