Healthy choices from Ashburn restaurants

    I must have GREAT seratonin levels.

    I like the falafel wrap at Sorrento. It's pretty yummy.

    our family loves sushi and we feel like it's a healthy meal. we like samurai sushi (r whatever it's called now- by safeway) and we LOVE sushi from weggies.

    Was it Lettuce Souprise you? I also was trying to think of what was in Reston near the Champps & Whole Foods.
    Maybe I'm having an Atlanta flashback.

    Actually, Sgt. Peppers rings a bell. Then, I think the name changed to something with "Fresh" in the title - Fresh Fare, maybe? Are there any salad bar-type restaurants left in the area? I can't think of any.

    Panera is hip and trendy, but generally less healthy than eating elsewhere....too many hidden calories, fats, oils, packaged in a "healthy" presentation

    I agree with TigerCPA - if you order a turkey burger at Ruby Tuesday's, you think you're making a good choice, but that turkey burger offering is one of the worst items on the menu, nutritionally speaking! Over a thousand calories and more than SIXTY grams of fat!! That's why I'd rather eat at home, when I make turkey burgers, I know exactly what goes in them and they're not any 1,000 calories, that's for darn sure. Same with ordering veges in restaurants...make sure they're not laden with all the butter or sauces.

    i've pretty much come to the conclusion that i will eat healthy at home= this way i control the fat, calories, quantity and quality of ingredients. no temptation if i've prpared grilled chicken and veggies!

    restaurant night is a treat that i but i try to limit the indulgence- if i get a fried app, no dessert. if i get a main course, i TRY to get a better side than fries. if i know i want dessert, i get a salad, light on the dressing, skip the bread and have my cake!

    balance keeps you from craving what you love and have to limit for the sake of your health and/or waistline. it's not that hard either!

    You're absolutely right Redon1. Fortunately for me - I'm not a big bread eater so I'm never tempted by bread in a restaurant nor am I a big desert eater either....fruit is my preferred choice! When we eat out - I always ask for double the veges, without butter. My husband is the big desert eater in our house, he has such a sweet tooth! I would say my big downfall is cheese and crackers....I can make a meal on that snack if I let myself.

    add some red wine to the cheese and crackers and i am with you there! my downfall is definitely fried foods, cheeses, meats- heavy stuff. i can easily drink my dessert from a corked or screw cap bottle... lol

    I'm a Yankee...no fried foods for me...but I'm also Italian....that is my big splurge and believe me I eat big when it comes to Italian food!! I make my own sauce, pasta, etc. and my grandma from Sicily taught me everything.

    WOW!!! I'm impressed you know about braciole!!! It's an acquired taste for a lot of people and not too many people are even familar with it!!! We have a HUGE Italian feast every Christmas day, which is traditional in our house. But I always make a big pot of sauce several times a year to freeze. I've often told my husband, if I were younger and had the financial backing - I'd open up an Italian restaurant....people in this area don't know what GREAT Italian food really tastes like! Hence - I don't eat in Italian restaurants.....

    Oh, if you opened a GREAT Italian restaurant, my husband and I would be regulars! I get excited when we travel to Albany to visit his family b/c it means we can actually eat at good Italian restaurants! Totally agree that there aren't any here and that is such a bummer....

    I agree - I'm orginally from the Buffalo, NY area. My grandparents actually owned an Italian restaurant up there...but it's no longer there as they're both deceased.

    I'm married to an Italian boy from Brooklyn- we go to traditional family gatherings several times a year... you should hear me pronounce cappiciola (gabigol!) and calamari (galamad!) lol i am ALL about traditional Italian dishes!

    i have ONLY had bracchiole in NYC- would never try it anyplace that i didn't see the Italian mother in the apron with the wooden spoon make it herself! although hubby makes a fantastic bracchiole when he wants to buy a new, expensive toy- :)

    now about those samples to PROOOOVE your claim of kitchen prowess...? lol
