Anyone has an experience with Absolute Security (ADT reseller)?
    www.absolutesecurityusa.com

    Or any other ADT reseller?

    Thanks,
    Satti

I used ADT in the past at our other home. When we originally called the 1800 # and inquired for an estimate, we had 5 (no kidding) different ADT resellers show up at our home trying to out do the other! I went with them at that time, but am now using Brinks! I feel that Brinks ofers a better product and better service.

indeed, any of the subsidized alarm system companies are $$$$$. Consider buying your own and you can get monitoring for ~$8/month.

How difficult is it install your own? Also, where do you get the $8/month pricing? Thanks!

I'm also in the market for an alarm system, and would love to hear form any DIY'er(Do-It-Yourself) who has installed their own security system. TIA.

its not hard to install--- usually just double-sided tape or screw (recommended) into moulding around window/doors. Some places will pre-configure your sensors and unit prior to shipping.

    check out places like http://www.homesecuritystore.com/ezStore123/DTProductList.asp?p=2_1_1_1_0_0_110

I have the Visonic Powermax with VOIP adapter, but there are others out there. I have Nextalarm for monitoring, which appears to have raised the prices to 12/month .. I guess I am grandfathered in. There are also GSM adapters so you don't need a phone/internet line which is good if your lines get cut, etc.

Cameras are nice, but I'd want something HD for a decent price -- that would be cool! =)

Thansk boomertsfx for your reply...I have a follow-up question.

Did you have the alarm wiring pre-wired in your house? If not, how did you install the alarm to the telephone line? I also ordered the Powermax2 security system. Thanks!

If you have a landline from Verizon, you'll need a RJ31x jack which lets the alarm system seize control of the line if it needs it.

Here is a link about it:

    http://www.hometech.com/learn/rj31x.html

Openband might already have it in their system, but I'm not sure...

sure :) You can get the system working without the rj31x, but you should have it for better reliability. Also, you can get non-dispatched monitoring cheaper if you just want them to page your cell phone and not call the police/fire depts.

We had a bad experience with ADT in another state. When we moved, they tried to get us to pay almost $1,000 when we declined to use ADT here in VA. They harrassed us for 2 years. We had our ADT system 5 years and paid for the entire system ourselves when we had the home constructed. They even demanded that we get the home buyer to use ADT as a condition of the sale. ADT was/is owned by Tyco International, which attracted worldwide attention for corporate greed and excess. Remember the multi-million dollar party for the former CEOs wife?

Hello if you have an alarm system in your home and if we can program it to work with our monitoring company we can monitor it for $25 per month.
