    thepea2001 and others--

First of all--thepea--congratulations on becoming a new Mom!:happygrin::happygrin: You will be busy--that's an understatement as the mother of 6 I can attest to.

Back to the subject at hand--hopefully--we can have a "sensible" discussion about the plights of the homelessness in Loudoun and other surrounding counties. With the shelter providing a needed service--I believe--that we all wish to assist those less fortunate than ourselves. Yes, we help also with "soup kitchens" and the like--but letting your kids see how "the other half lives" should spur us on to be understanding and compassionate--not NIMBY mentality.

Some of the kids--not saying any of "y'all's"--would be benefited by assisting others--not just the shelters--but others at Nursing Homes and other charities. We "adopted" an older "grandparents" couple down the road where our farm is located. We periodically check on them so to see if they need any assistance or help on their farm property/housework. The couple does not have any relatives nearby to help them.

Our kids are never too busy to help out--instead of "texting life"--why not become involved in older citizens lives if needed? Yes, homelessness is a tragedy with drugs, alcohol, and other "unsavory" events--but like someone previously stated--"there for the grace of God go I"--just my 2 cents? Yes, you do need to be watchful and wary--just do not become cynical.

Trying to assess the needs of any "community" is necessary--become involved and perhaps you may "change your tune"--so for the long lecture. Even though we do not live in Ashburn areas--we still are involved and concerned about this predicament.

    Have a good night--

Lol, Silence. Again you are twisting. No where did I say we did know who the illegals are just that I support a guest worker program.

You say: 'Well, who is in a lower socio-economic class with lower education than illegals?! ' Well, thats just about as bad as saying all low income families are minorities, when we know that the 'Bubbas' i.e. white lower income are probably as prevalent as low income minorities.

I don't believe the new 'story' either.

By appointment? What constitutes that? 'just have a seat, your appointment will be up shortly'.

If someone shows up they are going to turn them away because they don't have an appointment? Don't see it happening.

'here's a bus token, your appointment will be waiting for you when you get there'

The 'trying to work with the county' thing has been going on long before this 'change in plans' as well. Oh wait, didn't they JUST SAY in there letter last week it was NEVER going to be a Drop-In center to start with? So what exactly are they 'changing' now?

It is.. no it isn't... we don't do it now... I thought you never were in the first place? Bleh

Foodie - I totally agree with every word you said and you're raising your kids the way they should be raised, by showing them to be compassionate and caring and helping others in need. I'd love to have you as a neighbor. I'm not saying that most parents are not raising their kids like this, but I do see these kids in the Ashburn area driving expensive cars and having all the "material" things in life. I've always lived by the motto "Kids need your time - not money". You get back so much by reaching out.

    Steve,
I hope you are not really as mean as you seem, you are probably very nice in real life and we live close to each other. Honestly, I know you are an admin and can dropkick me into next week, but seriously ... why all the hate?

    Nothing but love.

That is uncalled for. Just because someone might have concerns over the potential for danger and question if this location is best to serve those in need, does not make him hateful. Likewise, your support does not mean you don't care about you community's saftey.

Not uncalled for at all when you look at the total, all the messages on several threads are laced heavily with sarcasm and distain, easy to do when you are in charge. I also did not ask with a tone of anger. But honestly Softball, I'm not surprised by your reaction. I care about safety and take that upon myself to make my family safe. I don't look upon the needy as dangerous. Many do as they fear what they do not understand. People live in a bubble.

I didn't read anything Steve mentioned as "hateful". He was asking a lot of questions about the facility, its operation, approval process, etc. I think he expressed a lot of concerns that people are having who have yet to get all the facts.

    What a nice guy.

I love the frequent use of "Bleh" in many posts. Just plain arrogance. That is all.

    ps. your welcome softball

My role as a user has nothing to do with my role as an administrator. I am a real person as well and those roles are separate.

It has nothing to do with being 'in charge'. I am free to interact just like everyone else. I'm sorry you feel the need to treat me differently. No one has been treated any differently by the Tech Committee simply based on how they have interacted with me as an individual vs an administrator. Would you prefer a situation where you have no idea who is the man behind the curtain? Or would you prefer those maintaining things be completely isolate and have no idea what actually happens daily on the site, etc? Personally - I'm not a fan of the 'faceless administrator' or worse.. the disconnected administrator.

Its disgust - not arrogance. The messaging and reporting around this organization and even from them themselves has been full of contradiction and (IMO) has been misleading; either intentionally or not. If not, very little has seemed to be done to correct the matter. The latest cycle furthers it rather then correcting it.

This center was about people in need, and all the "haves" YOU INCLUDED, felt a need to pick it apart because it would have exposed this community to the "have nots". Distasteful to you I am sure. Spend some time with the have nots, walk in their shoes, go hungry ... don't have shelter when it is 10 degrees, all because your mom got cancer and her health insurance wouldn't pay, this can equal homelessness. Or maybe your husband is a control freak, beats you and you have nowhere to go.

or are you too busy polishing your BMW?

    Disgust is even worst.

So someone has a different opinion from you and that makes them "hateful". Someone wants to live their life different from you and you label them as bubble-dwellers.

Seems to me that YOU like labeling people.

    Just an observation.

Now who is making accusations, being harsh and labeling with stereotypes?! You are doing exactly what you are accusing Steve of doing!

While I may disagree with Steve on GSA, I DON'T assume it's because he doesn't care about people. He has legitimate points.

I am not trying to label or be harsh, but really .... sometimes people are so wrapped up in themselves around here that they fail to see the big picture. You all can bash me all you want. I doesn't matter. I know where my heart is .... and who I am and its not ruled by fear or my property values.

I am done with this nonsense.

Fear always brings out the "best" side of people. Makes me wonder who I should really fear - the community shelter or the community residents?:rolleyes3: A dichotomy of sorts.

I think "fear" is a bit much. I would say that most people against the shelter are expressing concern.

And as someone else posted, I don't think it is that people are against HELPING another, it is just that the location could be better.
