No one is in the house. Even on a 90 + degree day, walking into an 85 degree house feels cool (for a brief period.)

We have the budget plan too, and I love it.
The plan readjusts in the summer, and we had lower bills because of that.
Our budget plan is usually $169 a month, but we only paid $100 in June and in July since we had a large credit balance.

Same for Washington Gas. We had a large credit coming into the summer, so we had no bill to pay in June and July. Our monthly gas bill is $130 in the winter.

My old fashioned budget plan is that my electric bill is higher in the summer and my gas bill is higher in the winter and it balances out.

Meanwhile, is everyone's power working full-speed today?
Ours isn't. Lights are flickering, air isn't cooling.
(Maybe our budget plan is bust?? LOL)

Haha that is exactly what we do. The gas and electric bills are almost exact opposites of each other during the winter and summer months.

I've heard that the budget plan also goes against your credit, that you have to apply for it.

I'm with JLC. The summer electricity costs almost equal the winter gas costs, so essentially it's a wash.

Anyway, I want to budget my own money and pay the exact $$ for the exact kilowatts used; and it let's me know when to cut back on usage.

I do not believe it has an impact on your credit, nor do I think they check your credit to become part of the programs. You did have to qualify which I think was based on your payment history.

I like the predictability of the bill amounts and it makes my automated banking payments easier.

There are different plans - 1 is a prepaid and another is budget. We do the budget to try and even out the payments throughout the year but the bill tells me exactly what the monthly cost & usage is. We've never done the prepaid/rate committment thing.

We are in a Fitz II which is similar in size to the Aldridge (actually wanted the Aldridge but were contracting when they discontinued them :angryfire:). It's 4,300 sqf above ground with a sunroom and basement was unfinished when built (finished now). I have no clue what size our AC units are but we have 1 larger and 1 smaller and haven't changed them since house was built 7.5 years ago. Our last bill for 6/7-7/10 was $350. We have programmable thermostats that go to 85 during day, downstairs at 76 when home & upstairs at 72 as of 7pm for sleeping. We keep all windows closed during the day in the summer but the house faces SW/W so we get slammed with the sun during the day and the upstairs bakes so much. We do also have an attic fan but it's not working......... need to get someone in/have it replaced.

Is 4300 with finished basement? Our houses sound very similar with position of it too. 2 of our front bedrooms get baked during the afternoon as well. There is no insulation below one since it's above the garage. You may some during the day since it's on 85 but I am home so i have it on 76.

If you look at your AC unit outside there is a plate on there that tells what size it is. I think our house was one of the last ones built. It was the only model we loved when it comes the open layout of downstairs.

    Thanks for sharing your info.

It doesn't go against your credit and you do not have to apply for it. I have the budget plan for both electric and gas and love it. I know what my payment will be each month. I've done this for years.
