So, Oasis, you'd take offense to me vandalizing your property? It's ok to use the boys will boys defense when it isn't your property? Riiigggghhhht!

this has been fun to watch- I truly planned on not even responding since others have so easily stated the obvious. i don't need to restate the points already made. oasis- it's not WWIII to protect what's yours- as you so clearly stated that YOU would do if homer slashed your tires. how do WE know how far these kids planned to go? all we see is 3 boys trespassing and tearing up things on our lawn. was it just a start to rip off the lights, and a finish to key our car? my husband's goal was to STOP them in their tracks- the fear was simply the one sign of intelligence on their part.

did they come back to show how BRAVE they were by egging our house in the dead of night, since their last visit to our house made them scream like little girls and run away? likely.

and to your point- if they WERE smashed out of their minds, whose to say they wouldn't have done something even more reckless, like throw a rock through my sleeping child's window? NOW is it worth doing something about? or when it becomes crashing a stolen BMW into some trees- is it time to react yet, oasis? It's funny that YOU say it in a way that should EXCUSE the behavior because of drugs or alcohol, when in fact- it makes the situation THAT much more dangerous and volatile!

i posted on this board because i believe that most people in here are other responsible home owners who want to support each other in keeping this a nice place to live- whether it's recommending landscapers or being aware of vandals. parents who may not be aware of their kids smoking bowls and vandalizing homes might look at their kids a little closer, and other home owners will have a heightened awareness of what's going on in their backyards because of the posts in this forum.

we will NOT let punks disrespect our property. if they step foot on our property again to do something stupid again, we WILL catch them- they will be punished- period. and i have a feeling that there are many other people on this board who feel the same way.

good for you if you've outgrown this type of behavior- your next phase in maturity will be growing INTO the kind of person who doesn't condone or excuse it.

    Ciao,

    Redon1

redon, to be honest I really couldn't care what happens to your property to be honest. Good for you if they haven't come back, and if they have, well, sucks for you. There's none of this crap going on in the "Broadlands" - I mean, Christ, you people have made this community to be so "perfect" and "tight-knitted" and family-oriented it's almost sickening. I can speak for many teenagers around here when I say there is absolutely nothing to do here. It's such a bore.

lol, you are such a troll. You're bored here? Try growing up in Westmoreland county where the closest mall is 1 hr away in Fredericksburg and you high school senior class was 90 people, 10 of which went to college.

You have it made compared to what many kids get so quit your whining. If you want something to whine about try something real like how you will never be able to afford a house in the neighborhood you despise.

So which Gallagher brother are you OasisRob? The talented one or the mouthy one that lives off his brother's ability? I wonder.... I'd challenge you to a battle of wits but it's not fair to beat up on an unarmed guy.

At least Noel can play an instrument - unless you count the tambourine! Although I would have to give if you said he only plays Beatles covers anyway....

Okay, people to your corners. This is not about oasisrob, this is about redon's (and other's) houses.

I don't think these kids were drinking or smoking. I think they were bored and looking for something to do. Plus, when your hubby went out there yelling at them, he threw down a challenge to them and possibly escalated what might have been a one time thing. Are these kids wrong? Of course! But really, what is there in this community for middle schoolers and high schoolers to do around here?

You can only hang out at Brickoven, Sunoco, or Wendy's for so long. The sidewalks roll up in this neighborhood at 9:00. There is NOTHING for them.

When most of us moved in here years ago (I've been here 8 years) we had little kids and this neighborhood was great for them. Parks, walking trails, pools, etc. We haven't kept up with these kids growing up. Now that we have middle and high schoolers, we haven't done much to meet their needs. So they're bored, and they go cruising the streets and getting in to trouble.

I've sat my kid down, made him read this thread, and told him this kind of behavior is unacceptable. When he has the guys over for the night, I set the alarm so they can't "escape". But when they want to go somewhere or do something, even I can't think of too much to do.

I'm looking forward to the movie theatre opening up soon. Can anyone else think of some teen friendly options available now?

I think he meant the watermelon smashing comic and his equally hack comic brother (who goes/went by "Gallagher 2"), seen below holding a sign describing his act/life:

I'm not sure what teens are into nowadays (except being disrespectful and general jackassery) but I doubt there are many things adults in the area could come up with that wouldn't be dismissed as 'lame' and 'weak' by the area youth.

When I was a teenager, we either went to concerts or played video games to pass the time. Here in Knoxville the major teen hangouts (read: trouble spots) tend to be Laser Tag, the malls, skate parks (not a bad idea), and the malls.

I think a lot of the problem might be that the culture of today's youth *wants* to be depressed and angst-ridden (Emo and Goth idiots, in particular) and there's really not a lot they'd do even if it was available, just to "F the system, maaaan...I'm too complicated for your lemming entertainment". Sigh. </soapbox>

Well, there you go. If you treat teens like they are automatically going to be angst ridden a**holes, you are going to be right every time. But if you treat these kids like they are people you'd like to be with, people you value, you will be right then also.

I had no less than 15 middle schoolers in my house this past Sunday with the snowstorm; running in and out all day.... They were loud, rowdy, and boisterous, but they also said please and thank you. They cleaned up after themselves (pretty well, anyway) and they all kept asking over and over, "Are you sure it's okay we're all here?" A large group even went down to the basement and watched the Olympics with my husband (no, not one of them seemed to think it was "lame".)

The worst thing they did was throw snowballs at my door, which they stopped when I told them to.

I'm not going to defend egging houses, no way. But don't paint every teenager in the neighborhood with the same broad brush.

    And per your examples:

Laser Tag? All the way in Sterling and not really a great place to hang out.

The Mall? Sure, but they are treated like potential criminals there, too.

Skate Parks? Not every one skates, or wants to go to Leesburg.

Video games? Okay, lets let them rot for hours a day and get no exercise.

And my own - Sport Leagues, which are great but they generally don't go on at night when the kids are bored.
