I have searched through several threads on this topic and was hoping people may have some experiences with several ob/gyns not discussed in previous threads. I already have info. for Women Physicians of No. Virginia, Loudoun Midwives, & Perfectly Female. Does anyone have experience with Dr. Neil Foster, Dr. Stokes, or the practice of Loudoun Ob/gyn (with Choudhry, Park, and Roberts)? You can reply to this thread or directly to me. Thanks for any info. you may have!

Loudoun OBGYN really treated me badly during my pregnancy. I was a patient of Dr. Thompson before she joined Chowdry, Park & Roberts. When she joined them it was too late in my pregnancy for me to switch. During the entire pregnancy I gained total of 16 lbs. Yet every time I visited the office Dr. Roberts made me feel I was over indulging just because that is what the sterotypical pregnant woman must do, at least in her opinion. Dr. Thompson promised me she would deliver my baby since I had been with her prior to my pregnancy and since she joined the practice so late in pregnancy. On the big day she did stop in a couple times, but only because she happend to be on duty. When she was getting ready to leave for the day she told me I just wasn't important enough for her to stay. Not the kind of thing to say to a woman in labor. To top it all off when Dr. Park delivered my baby I nearly died due to a loss of blood. My husband said everything was fine until she started pulling the baby to get her out. She wasn't in distress and I had only been pushing for 10 minutes. There were several other things I didn't like about the practice, the staff and scheduling etc. I could go on and on, but I'm sure your in TMI overload.

Please steer clear, I've heard many other women with similar complaints to mine.

I'm a patient of doctor Thompson, and have had no issues with the practice. Dr. Choudry is wonderful and very professional and knowledgeable. The scheduling was easy and convenient, and all four doctors are nice. The are one of the only practices that delivers at Loudoun.

Most doctors prefer not to deliver at Loudoun which is why I believe there are not too many selections in doctors for that hospital. Most doctors prefer Reston, Fair Oaks and Fairfax to deliver at.

I know you've already gotten info on Perfectly Female but I can't say enough good things about them. This is my 2nd pregnancy with them and this time I am "high risk" and all 4 doctors have been wonderful. They're supportive, encouraging, and the times I have had to call in with a concern or question, they have gotten back to me quickly. I've never had a billing problem and only 1 or 2 waits for an appt - due to them having to deliver babies and the remaining docs picking up the slack. Yes, they deliver at Reston instead of Loudoun but after having my first child there, I'm happy to go through the process again.

    Good luck in your search!

I'm going to have to give a BIG thumbs down for Perfectly Female. I had previously given them a great recommendation as far as general care, but for OB care had to drop them. They are always overbooked, rushed and impersonal. I've sinced switched to Loudoun Midwives and WOW, what a night and day difference. I don't have personal experience with Dr. Foster, but a coworker recently delivered with him, and had a very positive experience. Good luck!

I used to go to perfectly female and did not like them and switched. I had very long wait times, issues getting someone on the line to answer questions, and very discouraging bedside manner and no help when i reached out to one of the docs about a serious concern.

That's another thing!! I never waited LESS than 10-15 minutes on hold -- for anything. Talk about frustrating when you're calling for test results.

Well I have responded to this topic when it came up previously and I can not say enough good things about Perfectly Female. Dr. Patel is absolutely wonderful and was very caring when I went through a very difficult pregnancy/delivery and surgery. I will have to say that I very rarely go to their Ashburn office I go to their office next to Reston Hospital. I have been going to them for 4 years and I have nothing but good things to say about all of their doctors.

I Love Dr. Foster. He delivered my daughter 4 years ago and I can't say enough great things about him!! His office staff is wonderful and they always remember me. You never wait but maybe 5 minutes to be seen. I just think he is a really down to earth guy, and I feel very comfortable with any problems I might need to discuss with him. He really listens and is truely concerned.

I have to comment on clwjl5's comment about not enough doctors at Loudoun and the physicians don't want to deliver there. I don't know where this information came from but it is incorrect. Loudoun has over 25 OB/Gyn physicians (not including infertility, Gyn only, etc) practicing and Reston has 26, so I don't think they prefer one hospital over another. I think it depends on where the patient lives that determines which facility the physician will deliver in. Many if not most physicians have priviledges at all area hospitals to try to accommodate their entire patient base. I hope that sheds a little light on your concern.

As for Dr. Stokes, he delivered our baby girl 3 months ago. In the office during pregnancy visits, he seemed a bit rushed, but I think that's just because he's a very busy man. He was always very helpful and answered any questions (first baby). All the other Drs. and nurses were just as nice and helpful. They are a very pro-family practice.

We had actually gone to his practice (Women's Healthcare Associates) for Dr. Bess. She was super, super nice and we were really hoping she would deliver our girl. We wanted (and had) a natural childbirth (no meds), and she had delivered both of her own children naturally, so it seemed like it would be a perfect fit. Dr. Bess actually went and started her own practice, I don't know the name off the top of my head, but it's still in Lansdowne. I would recommend either one.

As for Loudoun Hospital, I thought the Birthing Inn was wonderful. I don't have much to compare it to, but very personal and comfortable.

I had a wonderful experience with Loudoun OB/GYN. I had a terrible delivery with another physician and they took every measure possible to make sure my pregnancy and delivery went as smoothly as possible. Dr. Choudry is wonderful- calm, caring, and professional. He did my actual delivery and everything went very well. I would highly recommend the entire practice!

I think alot has changed since the hospital is now Inova...however based on my experience when I had my last son there were not a lot of doctors to choose from that delivered to Loudoun and most preferred not to when I inquired.

My husband told me about this thread last night so forgive me if my post is tardy. I have to speak up for Dr. Thompson. I cannot in any way shape or form ever imagine her telling a patient that they "were not important". She
delivered our son via caesarean section in April 2003 and I could not have been more delighted. I changed to her practice very late in my pregnancy (7months) because my doctor lost her licensed due to substance abuse issues. I was very upset about this and Dr. Thompson welcomed me with open arms. I never waited more than 10 minutes for an appointment and I never had a scheduling problem. I gained EIGHTY (yes -- 80) pounds and no one ever said a word about it. From a surgical perspective -- she was incredible. I've worked in healthcare with doctors for my entire adult life and I can be a harsh critic. In the OR--she was in command. It was clear that she was respected by the staff and they all worked well together. She also did a great job on my son's circumcision (which I've had friends have disasters with on their little boys). I loved Loudoun hospital (and this was before INOVA) and I really don't understand the post stating that few doctors deliver there. I met 6 women at the New Mom's class at Loudoun after my son was born and we all had our babies within 3 weeks of each other and we all had different doctors--again, before INOVA.

I also really like the fact that she is a working mom with two kids. When I see her now we have much in common and she takes time to ask me about my life, my work, my husband, my child and how I feel about all of those things. I think she is fantastic.

I'm not invalidating anyone else's perception or experience. We all see things through our own lens.

Not that it will help much, but I do have a little experience with Dr. Foster. He shares a call schedule with my OB (Dr. Duggal). He took care of me in the hospital while I was post-partum and discharged me, since Dr. Duggal went on vacation right after I delivered. Although we only had a couple of 5-minute interactions, he seems very personable with a good sense of humor and was competent as far I could tell. He was willing to work with me on when I wanted to be discharged after my c-section.

I guess I'm an old one here.. Dr. Akbar in Leesburg delivered my three children.. I went into distress with my first child (he is now 16) and he was a premie... A lot of precautions were taken with my 2nd and 3rd pregnanies. Dr. Akbar LOVES bringing children into this world. I can not say enough good things about delivering at Loudoun. It was a wonderful experience. I've since had many procedures at Reston.. Blah... There are a few good apples within the rotten ones.. but unfortunatly if I had my choice.. Loudoun Hospital has my vote! Getting back to OB/GYN as much as I loved Dr. Akbar for delivering my children.. I'm a little disappointed with him as I reach the "next level." My family doctor has recommended Dr. Amy Brown. Has anyone used her?

Dr. Foster was my OB for both my children at Loudoun and I love him, the nurses, and the hospital. (Dr. Akbar had to deliver my 2nd as Dr. Foster was ill at the time). With Dr. Foster's office I feel like a person and not a number. They always know my name (even today, 5 years later!). Both experiences with LHC were good... private room, food was good, good nurses, and close by... and this was before the new birthing center.

I have experience with the Northern Physicians of Northern Virginia. I switched to Perfectly Female. :) Why?

    Physicians of NV, Ashburn office:
    1. The staff was not really nice. Everything is very impersonal.
    2. Very long waiting on the line when you call them.
    3. My doctor was really nice and loving but she forgot some things like for example, I took a scrape test, and I never got the result back because my doctor didn't officially send it or something. Even now I don't understand how it could be lost.
    4. I didn't feel care (if you know what I mean).

Anyway, I decided to switch to Perfectly Female. And I am happy so far with everything. Even such a small detail like a urine test that is taken every visit of mine makes the difference and gives me good feeling about the clinic.

It's been a while since this list has been updated with recommendations. Does anyone have an OBGYN that they would strongly recommend, preferably someone that delivers at Loudoun? I'm due in February and I am considering changing doctors.
