My son's iphone is broken and I'm evaluating alternatives. We have a family shared data plan on AT&T and I'm thinking of not replacing his but instead putting him on Republic Wireless. I'll have to buy a new phone, and it'll only work on Republic Wireless, so it's a gamble. Republic runs on wifi whereever possible and supposedly seamlessly switches to Sprint when there's no wifi.

I saw some old posts that suggested Sprint isn't good around here, dropping calls etc., but they were 1 or 2 years ago. If anyone here is on Sprint or has experience with Republic Wireless I'd appreciate hearing from you.

I've been on AT&T for years, while my wife has been on Sprint. Our Sprint service in Ashburn has been so bad that we finally gave her service up and she switched to AT&T. The service does cost more, but the dropped calls on Sprint were a daily event. The unlimited data sounds great, except it was dog slow....and thats when it worked. I would either go with ATT or Verizon, but if you actually want to use data and have an entire conversation in one call I'd stay away from Sprint. You'll also find that those that love Sprint also have a in-home signal booster (Airave), so their dropped calls and bad data are not noticable until they go a short distance from their house.

Here is a link to some reviews. When you exclude those not in our immediate area, you get a pretty good picture: http://www.cellreception.com/search.php?zip=20148&page=1
