    JOB SUMMARY:
    About the Agency

    This Digital Communications Technologies Specialist position is located in the Office of Public Affairs (OPA) on the Digital Communications Team. OPA is charged with devising and implementing diverse public affairs and communication campaigns that promote the FTC’s dual mission of protecting consumers and ensuring competition across the economy. This includes developing and managing digital outreach via FTC.gov, related web properties, and other vehicles and technologies.

    The incumbent will serve as a digital communications technology expert and day-to-day content manager responsible for developing and managing FTC.gov content in the Drupal web content management system. The digital communications technologist will be the subject matter expert on the FTC’s Drupal web content management system, performing administrative, development, testing, management tasks and other functions, as well as, collaborating with contractors and FTC staff on system updates, maintenance, and enhancements.

    The incumbent will be a key member of the FTC’s public affairs and digital communications team and be responsible for supporting the web content publication and web content operational needs of all agency bureaus and offices on a daily basis. This includes doing the hands-on publishing of web content in Drupal, supporting other FTC staff serving as content authors and contributors, and assisting with the development of documentation for processes and procedures. The incumbent will be expected to perform testing and QA and troubleshoot issues.

    The digital communications technologist will also be expected to apply her/his expertise and analytical skills to assess the effectiveness of digital outreach and to recommend solutions and improvements, potentially leading the deployment of enhancements and new approaches. The incumbent will be expected to stay abreast of best practices in digital content management, as well as federal requirements for Section 508, security, and privacy.

    The incumbent should have a thorough understanding of web content management concepts and strong hands-on experience with web development tools and techniques such as HTML, CSS, XML, RSS, JavaScript, and JQuery. The incumbent should also have a working knowledge of web application building blocks such as relational databases, SQL, and a web programing language such as PHP.
