Riding in today I counted at least 4 places where sprinklers had been on over night/in the AM.

    YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!

Don't make me open the can! :fight:

I'm no expert, but I think sprinklers usually require strong and steady pressure which is hard to create from a tank or bucket w/o using a pump or raising it above ground significantly. I did see a home improvement show that used a large wooden barrel to collect rain water. They raised it slightly, installed a valve at the bottom, and connected a soaker hose to it to water a flower bed. I think that type of setup works w/ drip irrigation systems as well. I don't know what location you have in mind, but assuming it is hidden well enough, I imagine you might be able to use a setup like this and fill it w/ the water from dehumidifier as opposed to collecting rain water. Google "Rain Barrel" or "Water Collection" and you'll find plenty out there on the topic.

I would try the following site (in the past I have had pretty good luck for gardening supplies) :

I ran PVC pipe from the sump discarge, under the deck to a side flower bed. There I attached a "T" pipe to two sections going right & left, capped off, then drilled random 1/8" holes. It gets the water away from the foundation and does a decent job of keeping hte beds moist.

To be fair, I don't know how many people know about the restrictions yet. I haven't seen mention of it anywhere but on this forum and if I hadn't read it here, I wouldn't have been aware.

It was all over the local news a few days ago and there are signs coming into the different communities, although I haven't seen one for Broadlands.

    Mandatory water restrictions

If we're under mandatory water restrictions, why are the water sprinklers still on in front of the Southern Walk shopping center?

I guess it could get quite expensive with a pump and who knows maybe we'll get torrential rainfalls soon! Yea right...

Mr. Lunix - does this also count for the sprinklers that are on along Clairborne Parkway?

ALL irrigation in the Broadlands runs off private wells.

Is there any way to know if those wells are running dry? I saw a report on the local weather last night that showed the aquifers in the area were running low too.

I think it is germain to point out that our Supervisor, Mr. Snow is the Chairman of the water authority. He shares a seat on the board with Sterling District Supervisor, Mr. Delgaudio. I have mentioned before what good friends they are. They share many common interests and many common political backers.

Now I am going to guess neither of these individuals can make it rain, but I probably shouldn't underestimate their egos.

It certainly is a legimately discussion point to talk about why our water board hasn't been more proactive during this drought, but I find it more interesting to consider what would have happened with more development. Can you imaqine what would have happened if we faced this drought and it's consequenses with the additional 33,000 home Mr. Snow and Mr. Delgaudio pushed during the failed CPAM effort, from earlier this year? Thankfully the effort failed.

Additionally, I find it a major conflict of interest that our water resources are being managed by Supervisors that receive a majority of their campaign funds from housing developers. That's a lot of control in the hands of a few people.

Does anyone know if the golf course being built off of Waxpool has its own water supply or uses the LCSA water supply? Either way we drove by yesterday morning around 9 AM and the whole place was being sprinkled quite heavily. Not sure how often it is done as when i drive by during the week on the way to work it is dark out. In my opinion, that is a huge waste of water for a course that is not going to open for who knows how long.

Looking at the water level in lakes, ponds, rivers and creeks all throughout the area it is amazing how low they all are. We saw one river bed in MD that looked as if it had been totally drained.

Seems to me that a LOT of people in Broadlands are still watering every day. When I walk the dog in the morning/evening there is plenty of evidence that sprinkler systems are still in use.

Just a thought - can we add the water restrictions to the broadlands HOA signs at the community center and intersection of broadlands blvd/claiborne? my apologies if it's already there - haven't driven by since saturday.

Well, considering there's a giant VDOT sign on the other corner which is a LOT more noticeable, I would suggest we keep our sign for community events for the moment. I am open to other people's opinions though. Should we, in essence, have 2 signs on that corner, one being the big VDOT one and a blurb on ours? Seems a tad redundant to me...
