Maybe we could hire a plane with a banner to fly over the neighborhood?

I didn't see them out the other day (yesterday!)- which is why I posted this. Had I seen them, I obviously wouldn't have suggested this.

No biggie! It's definitely a good idea if the VDOT sign wasn't there. Which brings up another question; is there anything on the other 'main' entrance to Broadlands, in Southern Walk? If not, would it make sense to request that LCSA put one over there, if they haven't already?

There's one as you go towards Harris Teeter from the Greenway.

I read in the local paper that golf courses get a reprieve from water restrictions. LUDICROUS! But I'm sure any golfer may argue differently:rolleyes3:

Driving home last night, passing Verizon going south on LCP, I saw a VDOT sign about the water restrictions surrounded by four sprinklers going full blast watering that corner of the Verizon property. Found it funny but sad.

Once again, most large-scale irrigation systems (verizon) and golf courses do not use LCSA water.
Quite frankly, if I had my own well, I would continue to use water as I saw fit, regardless of what LCSA says.

The Broadlands HOA has issued an official statement about the Loudoun County Mandatory Water Restrictions. They can be found on the Broadlands HOA website by going to the front page, and clicking on Loudoun County Mandatory Water Restrictions on the notice near the top of the page.

I realize that - but the image of the mandatory water restriction sign surrounded by four large sprinklers spraying water was still funny but sad.

And, when your well runs dry? That attitude contributed to this situation. People think "Oh well, I'll use as much as I want to if I can afford to pay for it, why not?!" I had a neighbor that watered his lawn every evening for hours. Imagine what his water bill was? Everyone should do their part to conserve, whether we're in drought conditions or not.

    Several reasons:
    - Course gets burnt out and becomes unplayable at some point
    - playing in burnt out conditions can cause more damage, divots and ball marks do not recover
    - it will take significantly more water and $$$ to recover from burnt out conditions, especially the greens
    - golfers do not want to play courses in such bad condition thus causing loss of revenue for the course

Alot of courses also have ponds that they can water from. That is until that runs out!

As someone who has owned several homes with wells, I think you might find that these folks are MUCH more careful about water useage and paying attention to drought conditions.
But to answer your question, yes it would be my problem. If I abuse the water and my well runs dry, I'm the one that has to pay thousands of dollars to have a new one dug. Not anyone else.

I know a few people on well water in Loudoun County and they are concerned enough about well water levels to honor the restrictions.

I'd be willing to bet they were concerned about it LONG before LCSA issued any restrictions.

Yes, I have a well and have always been very, very conservative with my water use. If I boil water for spaghetti, etc., I wait for the water to cool and then use it to water my outdoor plants - no kidding. Part of that ethic comes from growing up in a house that had a cistern.

    Charlotte and others--

We are also on well water at our farm. Growing up on farms you learn to conserve water early on in life. Our crops and livestock animals are doing good. We have soaking hoses (all) throughout our gardens--vegetable, flowers, etc. We compost heavily for vegetables and other gardens.

Also, we have industrial-type irrigation systems for our crops, etc. We do conserve water with rain barrels, reuse water for plantings, etc. after recycling water. If you are interested in how to pump water and get more "bang for the buck" for irrigating--PM me or post here and I will supply answers.

We also have huge (10 greenhouses) that is solar powered and have a watering (independent) system to keep them well watered (bad pun:clap:).

Van Metre was spotlighted on Channel 4 News last night about their continued watering habits in Stone Ridge.

I didn't see the story, but I was told that it was:
they use wells, not LCSA water, and they will continue to water.
