I don't know about the rest of you, but I love the new Safeway. It's really stocked. Finally, there is a store in Eastern Lo. Co. that has a decent vegetarian section.

Now, if we did not have to brave being run over just to get there...

I agree with you! I love Safeway, it's so bright and clean, I've always loved Safeway! But - you're right...it's a dangerous intersection!!!

I have two problems with Safeway (well, three).

    1. The aforementioned traffic problems. I decided earlier this week to try to take Demott to Waxpool instead of messing with Claiborne/Broadlands. It's extremely hard to see to the left where traffic is coming around a curve and also to the right where traffic is also coming around a curve. Perhaps if I had an SUV so I sat higher off the ground this wouldn't be a problem but I drive a sedan. Whomever was behind me was extremely impatient and was honking her horn (black pickup) - I think the total time elapsed from pulling up to the intersection until I entered it was under a minute. When I did enter the roadway, I had to floor my car in order to safely make it across the street, almost getting clipped by someone going way too fast on Broadlands.

    2. The parking lot desperately needs more cart corrals and Safeway needs to assign someone at all times to patrol the lot for carts. All of us as patrons ought to be ashamed of ourselves for just leaving the carts strewn about the lot. The two times I've been there, there've been carts all over the lot because people are just being too lazy to put them where they belong.

The way the lot is sloped, carts will roll around the lot if you don't put them where they belong. I saw a car get slammed into by a cart that someone in a green minivan left out in the lot - the worst part is that she saw it roll away, watched it slam into the car and then got into her car and drove off. Unfortunately, I was too far away to get her license number but if I had, I would have left a note for the owner of the slammed into car - it's a shame because the car looked brand new and was obviously parked away from other cars in the middle of the lot.

I don't want to hear the excuse about how people have kids and it's too dangerous to leave your kids in the car and take the cart back. I have a kid too and what I do is take the cart to the car, unload the cart, take the cart back with the kid in it and then walk back to my car either holding my kid's hand or carrying my kid.

    3. The new Safeway doesn't carry JustRight cereal and I'm collecting frequent flier points.

Unfortunately you have experienced the arrogance of the so called "elite" around here. The "me" syndrome is very much alive and I pray it dies down when these folks get older and hopefully wiser. It is a shame that one of Loudoun's worst things are some of it's residents but I guess that's NOVA for you.

It's definitely the "me" generation! It's sad that these parents are raising kids who will turn out like them! I too, am sick and tired are people always in a hurry, leaving their dang carts all over the place, come on - it takes two seconds to return them....and by the way - that's why the American public is overweight! Not enough exercise! Lazy, lazy people! It also irks me when people park their car in front of a store to just run in for something....again laziness, park in a parking space like everyone else! Slow down and enjoy life for a change.

I haven't noticed that much of a problem, specific to this community that is. We've lived in Arlington, Fairfax, and Herdon since we have been in NoVA, and nobody seems to be well mannered. We definitely are getting lazier as a sociey (the waist sizes prove it).

However, in defense of the Broadlands: We don't have kids, but it seems like we have the best neighbors in the world and they all have great kids. Even the little ones say "please" and "thank you," which is a rarity these days!

I couldn't agree more. It wasn't too long ago that stores would not let you take the cart out to the car, you had to take your car to the cart! Now they make it more convenient for people but it has just made them lazier.
Other than that, the new Safeway is great. I have always preferred Safeway over Giant. The Safeway meat selection is better than Giant, Giant has a nasty habit of running out of sale items by 10:00am and Giant NEVER has enough cashiers on duty.
I love that Safeway runs their sale ads Wed. to Tues. I find it more convenient to shop on Wed. or Thursday evening to keep my weekends freed up.

I agree with Chris. I love the new Safeway. They have everything I need and the store looks so clean. I went there on Saturday in the middle of the day expecting it to be crowded, it wasn't! I got everything I needed and there was no line at the check out. I was also able to order party platters for Thanksgiving at pretty much the last minute. I haven't had a problem getting in or out of the parking lot.

I love having Bergman's in the store, too! They do a great job. With the Safeway club, the price is very competitive.

Those Thanksgiving platters that you mentioned are starting to sound like a very good idea to me!
