I am placing the below in two threads in an attempt to get a good response.

I am wondering if there is a no solicitation policy or signage around the areas of Broadlands. I live in the area of Vestal's Gap, and over the past two weeks several gentlemen with a door to door magazine sales pitch have come to the door. They claim to be young men from bad parts of the inner city who are simply trying to learn how to dress and speak to people. While this seams noble and you may be signed up for Magazines these individuals typically use the opportunity to collect your check information and use it for fraud. Indeed you will receive the magazine, but you may not notice small amounts of money leaving your back account. This is a well known as a tactic for fraud. Calling the police will generally not serve a purpose if there is no signage indicating no solicitation. So this post is two part - 1. Do we have such a policy? 2. DO NOT GIVE YOUR NAME ADDRESS PHONE NUMBER OR ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO THESE POTENTIAL SCAMS. Keep in mind they will attempt to use passive intimidation such as "I used to be in a a gang and am trying to better my life, but I am not out yet..."

I agree. I am always amazed when they show up at my house with their clipboard full of the checks from my neighbors.

I would never give a check or any information to someone who I do not know.

    Re: Soliciting

Broadlands is not a gated community per say, as such the HOA does not have the authority to make us a "do not solicit" community. However, the very first thing people should ask (if you choose to answer your door) is "May I see your County Solicitor's license".

If they fail or refuse to show it to you, close your door and promptly call the LCSD non-emergency number 703-777-1021 or 703-777-0445.
