Does anyone know if Manhattan Pizza has changed ownership in the last few months? I used to really like the pizza here - not quite NY/NJ pizza, but the best I had found in the area. But something changed in the last few months - seems like different sauce, different cheese, different crust. Anyone else notice this.

Any suggestions on an alternative to try (preferably a place which delivers to Broadlands) for a NJ/NY type of pizza?

We are big Manhattan fans. When we moved here 10 years ago, Restaurants/takeout were very limited, and Manhattan was one of the few places we had found, that in my opinion, to this day, has one of the better pizza's in the area. I haven't noticed a change with our recent order. Still very good.

Pomodoro and San Vito had the best thin-floppy-big slice NY/NJ style when I was there.

Manhattan pizza is not NY/NJ style pizza. Besides, they serve Greek food, so they are not real Italian either. However, they do have good calzones. Anyway, Broadlands Brick Oven Pizza, Pomodoro, and Scottos Rigatoni Grill are the closest to the real thing in the area. The Broadlands one does deliver, but they charge a fee even though they don't advertise one. If you call them on it, they'll remove it. The other two have delivery provided by Carry Out Coach.

if you're ever in Herndon...in the clocktower right off the Toll Road (Centreville Road exit), there's a place called Rubino's that has great pizza!! that's the one thing i miss about living there...being walking distance to rubinos!

Thanks for all the replies. Does anyone else have a view on Pomodoro and San Vito? I know where San Vito is, haven't seen Pomodoro before. Sounds like I should give both of these a try.

I agree that Manhattan Pizza was never truly NY/NJ style - it was just the closest I had found in the area (I had focused on delivery outfits).

I think Bravo has a pretty good NY-ish style pizza. We've always had good pizza there.

Pomodoro is not close, it's out by the Best Buy/TJ Max plaza, however, they opened a location in Brambleton, same food, same people, Scotto's.

I thought Pomodoro was over by the Ice House, but wasn't exactly sure. We don't eat pizza alot, but when we do - it Emilios for us...worth the trip!

Pomodoro has two locations. Its original location is in Sterling, in the strip mall that houses Best Buy and World Market. The other location is inside the Ashburn Ice House. I've never been to the Sterling location but used to eat regularly at the Ice House.

Several months ago the Ice House location got a new manager who is nasty. Two of my children work at the Ice House and they stopped patronizing Pomodoro's because of the manager. He is probably trying to improve their profitability, but his heavy-handed approach (limiting # of napkins or straws, restricting the use of discount cards, and so on) is turning people off.

We won't eat there anymore because of him.

RE: ownership, we were at Del Ray this weekend and spoke with the owner. He mentioned he also owns Manhattan Pizza. I don't know if he's a new owner of it, or if he's owned it all along, though.

I spoke to the wife of the husband/wife team that owns Del Rey and they started Manhattan Pizzaria and it is now owned by her son-in-law. I don't know if that has changed in the last few months, though.

Fair. Decent. Not fabulous, but good enough, and nice to have so close to home.

I tried Pomodoro and its much closer to what I'm looking for. Thanks for the suggestions. I also tried Scotto's and its just like Pomodoro.

    Thanks,

NY/NJ Pizza: Tony's in Fair Lakes. They even show the pie in the glass case and do by the slice! Tony's brother owns another joint in Centerville across from the Nacy Fed Credit union but I forget the name, starts with "C" That place is also good for NY/NJ style.
