    j3mom and others--

Someone recently wrote to me regarding "bottom rot" for tomato plants and was seeking Organic Solutions for the problem. Below are some factoids and other pertinent information for those of you who have a vegetable garden and also tomato problems. If you a specific questions--please do not hesitate to PM or ask on forum under this thread.

Even though we have quite a large garden (vegetable) for our family of an acre or more (our kitchen garden)--I can post some helpful Organic and Non-Organic methods as well as "old-timey" solutions for your problems if asked. We grow alot of heirloom tomatoes and garden organically as much as possible--especially for our food supply.

The web sites/links are as follows--

www.attra.ncat.org/attra-pub/summaries/tomatoweb.html (Attra's site for info. Attra is a National Sustainable Information Service that is managed by the National Center of Appropriate Technology (NCAT) which receives grants from the USDA's Rural Business Cooperative Service Department. Great resource for ALL gardening issues--not just tomatoes! Just do a topic search on questions.)

www.tomatogardeningtips.com/tomato_troubleshooting_chart.htm (Tomato Gardening Tips site show tomato problems, diseases, etc. They also have a link for Organic Solutions for tomato diseases such as bottom rot. Great source. Click on the link--"Organic Treatments for Common Tomato Problems".)

Back on the 22nd of we went up to Blue Mont Nursery and asked about the Bottom Rot problem. They sold us a spray bottle of stuff called "Rot-Stop" by Bonide. I followed the directions (very rare for a guy, I know) and then we went on vacation. We got back yesterday and am thrilled to report seven ripening tomatos with NO BOTTOM ROT!!!!

It we get rain today I'll hit them again.

    Kaosdad and others--

Yes, the Bonide product line is also good for "bottom rot" on tomatoes. We have used that in the past;we farm more now with organic methods and organic products as needed.

By the way--if you wish other "old-timey" gardening guru secrets--check out my thread under Nature... the post called "Gardening Gurus...".

    Good eats for tomatoes--

I canned alot of tomatoes and still have "extras" currently coming in for harvesting. I made fresh salsa, spaghetti sauce, catsup, tomatoes for soups, etc. Anyone want some tomatoes--free? (If interested and I have some leftovers--I will provide.):D
