Im new to the area but HT prices seems higher to me than Giant (stop and shop) etc. It is close though. As with all supermarkets, you need to shop their flyers and offers to get the most bang for your buck.

On a side note; do any of them offer international sections? maybe UK candy etc?

to bring the conversation back to the OP's original point, would you shop at a store to keep it alive? Would you shop at a particular HT or spend a few bucks at Safeway to help keep them from closing? (So, the question is would you invest in keeping your local strip mall anchor store open versus a vacant?)

Harris Teeter has some UK food and candy, Wegmans also in the international aisle. Your best bet is World Market though - it's a Brit expat's paradise, especially with mince pie and Christmas cake season coming up.

Absolutely not! If there prices are high or selection/quality poor which drives customers to competitors, then they should suffer the consequences and go out of business. I shop at HT once or twice every 34 months and do all my shopping at Wegmans, Costco, and various Asian supermarkets. When I need something or run out, I always drive right by HT to the Giant. I ralize every store is probably higher priced for some food types, but can't see how HT is consistantly higher across the board....

Not if it was being replaced with a Trader Joe's.

Speaking of which, wouldn't it be so cool if Trader Joe's DID in fact purchase the Safeway spot? They would probably have more than enough space, and could set-up an indoor barista with their selctions of coffee. There is a little cafe space adjacent to the deli. And they could offer samples, just like they do at their other stores. But new and delicious product samples, not another non brand-name station of processed turkey and "Swiss" cheese cubes.

    We can only dream ...
