I just see something everyone here should know. Two little girls on bike were almost hit by pickup truck at the intersection of Claiborne/Broadlands. I have live here 3 years and this is crazy that there is no light! Now with shopping center ready to open (almost), there is still no light! Maybe someone die and then will be light! Is that what it take?

That is horrible! I agree with you, a child will probably have to die before anyone will care.

When we take our two little girls out for walks, we make sure to avoid all the busy intersections! We have even had to make sure that our two older boys do not bike or ride scooters near the "main" roads and intersections.

It may be for the shopping center. I know a light is scheduled for that intersection. Dang, do you live in the Engle townhouses?

When I drove through the intersection earlier today, it was half ripped up. It did not look like a light was going in though. I would love to know what is going on. I checked the HOA's main site at hoa.broadlands.org but it has not been updated with any information.

I have addressed the latest I know about the issue of traffic lights on another topic "Traffic lights at Claiborne and Waxpool".

They appear to be milling and repaving the roadway... not an uncommon activity for summer/fall.

It looks like it only is re-paving. I hope it was a light but it is not. :-(...

How can it be that it is not a light there with all the construction! Homer: we live for now in Ashburn Farm and are waiting for new house in Southern Walk.

Has anyone noticed that the street lights are all out between Vestals Gap and all the way down to the Greenway entrance? My husband and I walk every night and these lights have been out for over a week. I witnessed almost two near accidents because it was so dark!!! Anyone know what's going on with these lights and when we'll have them back?

We've noticed that problem on Vestals Gap, too. We thought that it was due to Isabel....

About the intersection, we called the county and told them that a light is really, really needed. It is definitely becoming a huge public safety problem. The people in the county were very polite and nice, but they could give us no sense of when this issue will be addressed.

It's too bad that an accident will probably need to happen before any action is taken...that light at the shopping center should have been the FIRST thing they put in......Makes me angry....that shopping center will be VERY busy!:(

In the last few days I've seen several cops pulling people over near the Claibrone/Waxpool intersections for speeding and rolling stops - maybe the calls to the county are getting noticed. A BIG thank you to those who did something rather than just complain like most of us tend to do (myself included :)

Why was the road paved? I was not that bad. There are other roads in the area that need attention greater than Claiborne.

We just moved to the Broadlands and I must say, some drivers are hauling a** on Claiborne, Vestals Gap and other residential roads Save it for the Greenway or take it to the track. ( *cough* new 350z owner *cough* )

It was probably not the state or county that paid for the paving. It is common practice for the developer to be required in a proffer to improve adjacent roads when putting in something such as a new shopping center or subdivision. In this case Saul was probably responsible for repaving the road and is one of the conditions he had to meet to get off bond.

In fact, all of Claiborne within Broadlands is still under the control of the community developer (Terrabrook), not the State (You'll notice an "End of State Maintenance" sign when coming under the Greenway from Ashburn Farm.) Therefore either Terrabrook or Saul Centers did the milling and repaving in this area.

My husband and I walk every night down Clairborne toward the entrance to the Greenway...you're right "Volvo Nut", people here do speed....Clairborne Pkwy is turning into a speedway...no cars go under 40 miles per hour, it's more like 45-50!!!Nor do they give pedestrians the right of way when crossing the street, they'd sooner hit you than slow down...it's amazing more accidents haven't happened. My husband calls the Sheriff at least once a month....they said they're doing the best they can to get the speeders.....

It almost one month later now since I first post this here. I ask now where is the light? I call county planner in Leesburg, and they not even know Safeway almost ready to open. Like I post before, maybe someone die and then will be light!

vacliff, is there anything you can do to help this along? Or at least find out a status on the light?

I have some news, but it isn't good.
Expect 4 way stops to be installed at Broadlands/Claiborne and Waxpool/Claiborne, possibly in November. These will be put in due to how long it's taking to get the lights in. There probably won't be a light at Broadlands/Claiborne until next spring and a light at Waxpool/Claiborne until 3-6 months after that.

Cliff - Can you comment on the lighting on Claiborne? I noticed it has been out on both sides for quite a while. I realize the lettering "broadlands" has been removed from the entrance, due to repeated vandalism, but many night lately, there have been no lights either. Do the timers need to be reset?

Also, outside the Community Center is not lit after our meetings. I know where the timer is for that in the building, but I'm reluctant to adjust it without really knowing what I'm doing.
