Our central heater is sounding very loud when the heat comes on. The main recirculating fan is okay. The small furnace fan connected to the exhaust pipe is rusted and makes a loud (grinding, slightly vibrating) noise when the heat comes on. Anyone else experienced this? My thought is that the rust is causing the grinding, loud sound. Can this become a problem? Thanks in advance for your input......

Yes it's a draft inducer blower and goes bad due to the proximity to the heat source of your furnace and the humidity in the circulated air. I've replaced both attic and basement ones in my house for the same reason - got them on amazon or ebay for under $100 each. Fairly easy to install, if you have any questions, PM me and I'll answer as soon as I can..
