It is also taking them longer to get around because they have to rake up the grass in a lot of yards because it was so long when they mowed it. Saw HLs out mowing at 8pm last night on Milford with a large truck full of grass bags.

LOL - no chewy our tibbie is only 9" tall - sorry my mistake.

Also HLS came out yesterday to mow our street and the common area on ridgeway. It looks wonderful.

The other day it looked like someone was measuring and flagging an area of tall grass in a median... I so appreciate that! I've been the victim in a few nasty car accidents and I'm happy to see the medians being cared for... allowing for good visibility of other cars/traffic!! THANK YOU :)

    Question...

If HLS mowed my lawn and left huge chunks of cut grass that was not picked up or raked, is it better to call HOA or HLS? I know the grass was pretty tall when they cut it, but the least they could have done is rake up the chunks. It looks pretty trashy and I could end up getting a polka dotted yard with the brown spots if left there that long.

Could I rake it up - sure. But I would rather make a point so it doesn't happen again. I know there has been a bunch of discussion lately about HLS and the amount we pay for HOA dues that go to lawn care. Bottom line is though - if I paid some neighborhood kid $25 to cut the lawn, you can bet your @ss I would be over at his house so he can come back to do it right.

    Thanks

    (I tried uploading photos - didn't work)

You should call or send a note to the HOA office and ask them to contact HLS, that way the staff has a record of your issue too.

We should have facebook-like status updates here on the forums.... mine would read: "krmckee.... is so happy that HLS finally showed up at my street today!". I hope we get good weather so they can catch up with the rest of the neighborhood. It had been another 2 weeks for us here on Milford Drive....

I agree!!! I was about to purchase a lawn mower this past weekend because I could not take it anymore!! My dog doesn't even want to go outside for potty breaks in my yard because the grass being so tall... Plus driving into the neighborhood looked so awful... I felt bad for the people trying to sell their houses... I know this occurs each spring but it's really starting to get annoying.

Well instead of sod and weeds, what about a riff off of an English Garden, but VA style? And yep, our lawn was BUSHY, but we don't mow when the ground is so soggy you sink into it. That weekend when the temps hit 90 did a great job of finally drying the back yard. Told Koasdad next time he mows to lower the mower to golf course level! Couldn't see Keeva for awhile!

It has now been 13 days since HLS last cut our lawns, I am not buying "they can't mow during or after rains", I watched HLS mowed the common area on Tues & Wednesday.

Also why does HLS continue to cut SW Courtyards at the very start of the week, by the time the weekend comes around the grass is too high to enjoy a simple birthday party, bbq etc.

This "other" issue comes up year after year and year after year residents request HLS to mow in the later part of the week.

If HLS mows when the ground is saturated they are likely to create ruts and pull up grass. If that happens in the common area, they can come back at a later time to do repairs...If they damage a resident's lawn there is a much greater issue. Much like trash pickup, HLS cannot be everywhere at the same time, some one has to be cut at the beginning of the week... The "problem" usually only lasts during the beginning of the season - and as everyone knows this was an unusually wet spring - once we move into the drier summer months growth will slow exponentially!

Wow, ten pages of responses about lack of mowing. Get out of your Lexus, put down the control to the Wi, put down that doughnut from the new Dunkin' Doughnuts...you could have gotten a mower out and just mowed a portion or two with all the energy you expended on these complaints. If we aren't happy with the schedule of the lawn service, we actually open our gate (this will entail walking), and mow the back forty.

that's all well and good except people PAY for this mowing to be done already- no choice. there's more, but that's enough...

i would agree with you chatty for vacant homes that no one is currently responsible for...

I also pay for the dealership to work on my car, the plumber to fix my toilet, etc., but that doesn't prevent me from getting my hands dirty once in awhile....and one of the worst cases of lawn overgrowth on my street is an occupied house....I'm done '-)

But do you pay the dealer to do the work.. then immediately take your car home and do the work yourself?

They already paid for the work - its not unreasonable to expect the service for what you already paid for.

Geez, between tall grass, OpenBand, and Village Drive kamikazee drivers, it must REALLY suck to live in SW with all the complaints over there.

There are two houses for sale on my street in Broadlands North -- come on over to the good life. [IMG]
