Too bad about the wait. We probably won't go, especially with kids. Nothing more painful than to have to entertain a 6 and 3 yr old for an hour. That's precisely why we don't go to Naruto's anymore.

Oh, I hate those! We have actually... gasp... taught our boys how to sit still and converse with adults when out for a family dinner. They actually did great! That said, all stomachs were growling as it is much to long to have to wait for a meal.

Teaching children how to wait is a valuable lesson. Large parts of their adult lives will be spent waiting and it is useful to have the learned skill of waiting.

    Good for you CuriousGo :)

since i started this thread i feel compelled to comment once more... i know long waits are not culturally acceptable here- but keep in mind that the chef IS coming from cooking for more than a decade in Paris. Living years in Europe taught me that meals were experiences to relax through and enjoy, which is why I never minded the wait at Callaloo, and while my wait wasn't long- I didn't mind waiting here either. Funny Callaloo didn't make it either... :(

Maybe this place may have done better at Reston Towne Center, where dining out is more of a social thing, where a wait wouldn't be a big deal (though YOUR wait did seem extreme, CuriousGo.) It doesn't fit its location, which says "food" not "cuisine." No liquor license with French food is odd. The price point is pretty high compared to other Ashburn eateries.

There is no doubt this place has mountains to overcome to survive much less thrive here. I just hope people check it out for themselves and decide, and not just let bad press of a small sliver of the community- which ALWAYS travels faster and further than good press (which most people don't take the time to report) make the decision for them.

i'll give it another shot because i'd like to try an entree this time, AND I want more of that asparagus soup!

And, doesn't the food always taste better when one is famished! Maybe that's part of their plan:rolleyes3:

an hour wait without a liquor license could feel like a very long time...

I'm so glad you shared that - we did the same thing...why do parents think that kids need to be entertained all the time? They need to learn how to sit still and actually carry on a conversation.

We're able to eat out with our 5 year old just fine - she'll use the crayons if she's given some, otherwise we keep ourselves entertained. I do have some friends with kids who have trouble sitting still for a long time like that, so I know it can be harder for some people. From what I've seen that's especially true if you have one under 3 years old.

Teaching in the right environment is important too so pick your battles. We are not going to take our 5 year son to Chez Francois and try to teach him patience when Red Robin is perfect for that. So, when we DO want to go to a finer restaurant with a probable longer wait, we will bring entertainment for our son.

And FWIW, we would have not waited as long as the original poster did for our meal.

Or hire a baby sitter and spare the other paying patrons the agony of having to put up with ill behaved children.

Is that really the reason that Panache closed down? I went once and never again because their food was not that good for the price charged. Nice idea, poor execution!

to each his own on taste- i personally always felt i got my money's worth there- brunch was wonderful, the gezpacho was fantastic, i loved the kobe sliders and other small plates they offered. i rarely had dinner entrees, i admit, but i try to eat smaller so small plates suited me perfectly.

We went to the brunch and didn't care for it at all...we had company and took them there and were really disappointed.

Cafe Panache ads are still running here. Odd! Someone didn't do their research.
