    Fellow Foodies--

Some one was asking for a New Mexican restaurant--well El Mariachi Mexican Restaurant is Now Open! My husband, kids, and I went to lunch today at the restaurant. Great place to eat lunch or dinner.

We had wanted a margarita; but the liquor license has not come through yet. However, we had tried the location at Rockville, MD when we visited with some friends. Great food and drinks. The menu located on web site is same as Lansdowne's location. The web site is below--

    www.elmariachirestaurant.com (El Mariachi's web site.)

Washingtonian magazine had a review of El Mariachi if interested--link is below:

www.washingtonian.com (Washingtonian Magazine's site--just type in restaurant name for reviews.)

    Good eats--

    Foodie

I've been reading other members posts for a while and finally decided to join as I felt the need to chime in on El Mariachi...

My husband and I used to dine at El Mariachi in Rockville when we lived there and absolutely loved their food! We've sorely missed the place since moving to Ashburn...the Mexican restaurants in the area have been ok to just plain lousy so when it came to dining out, Mexican wasn't an option. When we heard that El Mariachi was coming to Lansdowne, we were very excited. Last Friday, we went there with some friends and the food was just like we remembered it. My husband and friends had different variations of the combo fajitas and I had the plato verde. Even though we were all full, we ordered desserts (flan and chocolate mousse) and they also gave us a large piece of tres leches cake on the house. Everything was delicious! Needless to say, we highly recommend this place when you're in the mood for Mexican!

Did you see that Anita's is opening in front of Ashburn Ice House? They have another branch in Herndon and it is tasty!

Outstanding food - and great service tonight! Still no liquor license but this is the best Mexican food we have had here and puts the others to shame - serious shame - they should close now in total shame.

We will definitely go back - - no crowds, happy service - very fresh food and nothing from a can and no shaving cheese from a can - home made chips.

We will definitely be back - a little on the above average cost ($72 for family of four - with no alcohol on the tab) - but for that kind of fresh, real mexican food - totally worth it.

Thanks for letting us know about it as we have been searching for good Mexican food!

wow, wow. maybe i've lived in a cave too long, but i would never think that it would cost $18 each for mexican food. does that include filet mignon in your burrito?!

You get what you pay for - - - that included an appetizer and the drinks - but yes it is on the high side. I am just sick of junk, pre-packaged Mexican food so even though it was high - it was worth the price.

true. the best place i have found for mexican is this little hole-in-the-wall in falls church...good authentic stuff like you'd get in the real hispanic section of san francisco...for less than $10...no atmosphere, but gooooooood food :)

What is the name of the hole-in-the-wall in Falls Church?

Burrito Brothers, right off Leesburg Pike. Here's a review. Again, definitely not a "take the family out for an evening of fine dining place..." But if you want to pop in for a great burrito or fajita, it's messy and spicy and unpretentious.

I've been to that Burrito Brothers but thought it was the same type of setup as California Tortilla - not a sit down Mexican place. That said, the burrito was good, but too much rice stuffed in it for my taste.

If you want authentic Mexican, you might want to try Del Ray in the broadlands.

I think that the ElMariachi restaurant is better than Del Rey.

Apparently Lansdowne is the high rent district - - - I was talking about Mariachi's and the oddity of white table cloths in a Mexican restaurant (i defy anyone to not spill salsa on it) - and a friend said the Emilio's went upscale as well - - hostess in black and white and prices went high with it.

Seems odd that two casual places are trying to go high end - in price and look - but not quite the food.

Guess I am too low rent for that side of town - - -

Del Ray is the worst around here when it comes to "authentic" mexican. Tortilla Factory in Herndon, Los Toltecos in Sterling, and that other one on 7 in Leesburg, can't think of the name right now, are all much better.

We ate at Emilios in Lansdowne after reading the reviews here about how good the pizza was. We were not at all impressed and won't be back. Food wasn't good and it was expensive.

Emilios in Sterling is much better by far....and it's less expensive. If I'm eating pizza, I don't need a white tablecloth.

I really like Rio Grande, but I'm the only one in my family with that opinion. I like Los Toltecos (Countryside), too, as does the rest of my family. Best Anitas, IMHO, was the original in Vienna, on 123, eating outside. When I try a new Mexican restaurant, I put it to the Fajita and Margarita test. If it passes, I'll go back again and try other things.

Which begs a question - I love Baja fish tacos. Any opinions on where to find the best ones?
