Glad a new runway opened, but it got me thinking about flight patterns. Any one in the "know" if this will effect the neighborhood?

It should not affect the traffic pattern over Broadlands.

Runways 1R, 1C, and the new 1L all have left patterns. The Downwind leg for 1L might be extended about 10,000 feet to the West. I imagine that the Downwind leg for 1R, 1C and 1L will all be the same for traffic management.

Our neighbourhood is more affected by the traffic on runway 12 since that is also a left pattern. I believe that the next runway to be constructed at IAD will be 12R/30L. When that is built and used, it will increase our neighbourhood Airplane traffic.

I heard on the radio this morning, WTOP I think, that the new runway is still being fed by an unexpanded queuing lane, so there is really not a significant impact yet on take offs.

    Anyone hear similar?

The new runway is "lined up" with Ashburn Village Blvd., so the Broadlands will not be impacted by the new runway. Our noise will continue to be aircraft that have turned North after departing from runway 30, but as just said in a previous post, we really can't complain about airplane noise....

A new runway does not equal more planes. At least not yet. Dulles's numbers are down due to the economy. But it does have the capacity to handle more planes if/when volume picks back up.

Plus the extra taxiways aren't done yet, so they can't really up the volume until summer.

Has the HOA taken an official stance on this, someone should speak for the association on issues like this.

Well once BRMC is built maybe Donna can get a job with the airport to make that happen. :)

Did you happen to see the ridiculous presentation made about the so called "petitions" that Donna made. No wonder she chose to be last with that bunch of hooie. I wouldn't have wanted to do that with many people around. What a joke.

Given that Donna has admitted in a public forum that she has no idea how names got on her list, how can it be seen with ANY credibility?

Oh, swell - that's where I live. So far I haven't noticed anything different. Does anyone have a link to a diagram of the new runways and where they are?

the only plane I hear is about 4:30 A.M., it's a small plane, prop, that sounds like it's struggling to get where it needs to go. It' wakes me up every day during the week. I rarely hear any other planes.

Small prop wakes you up? That's interesting. Maybe a puddle-jumper taking the WashPost to other regions (and it's loaded up with papers).

This is the bad boy that I swear rattles our house (always at night). I've seen it on final approach during the day (when I was on Route 7 exiting onto Claiborne) - what a beast.

ps - note how long it takes for this thing to take off. It uses every foot of the 10,000+ft runway. This was taken at Dulles, according to the forum where it was posted.
