Yes...with a lot of struggle I had put our little one to sleep at 12:45 AM to be awakened by this darn noise at 1 AM....sheesh! The positive thing was I got a good 10 minutes of sleep! :)

Is there any number where we can call and complain? I remember seeing this number in earlier threads but just lazy to search!

    The power of "white noise"!

I struggle to fall asleep when the room is too quiet.

I can empathize our lil guy woke up screaming from the noise and wouldnt go back to sleep until 3AM.

I guess you live in Southern Walk as well? The plane came over Croson Lane heading NW and took a sharp left.

The number I called to file a formal noise complaint is: 703-572-8215

Thanks...I will be calling them now!

Yes, I live in SW, and our yard faces Croson Ln...which isn't too good as the plane noises at night seem to be growing louder every week!

It's interesting that I live in Ashburn Village near the IHOP/Fuddruckers/Bertucci's and haven't heard those big planes. I thought I was in the hot zone...

I'm not complaining, though! I'll take my quiet when I can get it!

It's the flights that take off on Rwy30 that affect Broadlands. These flights would not affect the Village.

I was working the midshift last night and saw the posts. The largest plane I could find departing Dulles around that time was a Challenger jet.

I'm right behind you and I'm a heavy sleeper (when I finally get there) so your house must be well insulated.

PS. I filed a complaint and they told me it would get reviewed by the "noise complaint specialist". Then they said my complaint was the only one they've received in weeks. hmmm (as if my complaint had no validity.)

I filed a complaint yesterday about the flight around 10:30pm from 2 nights ago, so they were quite mistaken. Actually, someone is supposed to call me back later this week if they are able to get the details (he said that, due to security concerns, sometimes they are not given flight info). If they release the info (on the flight from 2 nights ago) I'll post it here.

out of curiousity- what would any of you who are bothered by the noise expect them to DO about the issue? if it's simply loud because it's- well, planes taking off and landing- and NOT violating noise ordinances, IS there a solution?

i live near Hillside Elementary, planes are flying over all the time so I don't even hear them anymore. The Man has jumped out of bed on more than one occasion thinking a plane was going to hit the house, but I don't ever hear it. Guess i'm blessed with being able to block out unpleasant sounds of all kinds! that includes crying babies in restaurants, snoring spouse, whining 10 year old and beeping smoke alarms... :)

sorry- i digress. i really DO want to know what people think a solution to this issue is. thank you. :)

I have been in Ashburn Farm over 8 years. The plane noise does not normally bother me a bit. I knew before I bought my house that an airport was nearby and will not be one to complain about normal airport operations. However, the plane the other night was different. I have never felt the need to call before but this one was slow and low and LOUD. If it was within the acceptable noise range, fine, at least now I will have a baseline to what the acceptable noise is. Unfortunately for us, Dulles hosts some "unknown" type aircrafts that may be exempt from the normal operations (Cliff-any insight?). That may be what we're experiencing here. Or it could be the new runway. No idea. But either way, if they are outside of acceptable noise levels, maybe the airport people can do something about it. I assume the airport operates a noise complaint office to look into these type issues. I was more curious to find out what kind of plane (cargo, 777, etc) than anything else.

I heard that one too and I usually don't hear them. I was already up so it didn't bother me, but it was the first one that I actually noticed and looked at the time.

I don't really care, so I'm not suggesting this by any means, but the only solution I can think of is to require planes to take off like they do out of Orange County, CA. I just call it the "John Wayne departure" but I'm sure there is a more technical name for it. But I don't want that. I HATE that every time I fly out of there.

There is flexibility when it comes to flight patterns.. it just could affect things like capacity. So there is conflict of priorities... unless people want the limits ignored, they need to speak up when they are encroached upon.
