Why did the "Swingers in Broadlands" thread get closed? Such irony that it was started by a reporter no less. Nothing like a little neighborhood censorship in the face of a free press.

I thought it was pretty funny myself.

Be careful or the teenagers who have all this free time and are no longer throwing poo in pools, will start throwing rocks in peoples yards and wait to see what happens.

    joy,

I don't see any admin notes saying why is was closed, so something is weird.

At first, I thought that the whole must surely be a joke, but then someone here at work told me just this morning that he heard something about big rocks being signals of swingers in Loudoun. So, what is the deal?

Simple. It was closed because it was determined that the whole thing was just a rumor created when one of the Sports Junkies who lives in Broadlands made the comment "I have a neighbor who has white stones on his front lawn" or something like that. The admins decided that the issue was settled when it was determined to be a mis-understanding and we closed the thread. We routinely close threads which have run their course.

As for 'censorship', can you please indicate WHERE we deleted anything? The thread is still there to look at, etc. If you all want to discuss the whole subject further, feel free to start up a new thread or discuss it here. Just don't start throwing the 'censorship' label on us for simply closing a thread which we thought had run its course. As for the reporter, I doubt he/she was the least bit offended; if so, we apologize.

Mr. Linux, I think the confusion could have been avoided by posting a brief note about why the thread was closed. I agree with you that there appears to be no censorship, per se, but I doubt you would be getting questions from joy and others if there had been a simple note, letting people know that you were shutting down the conversation and why.

Also, I'm not so sure that this is simply a dead issue. Another coworker just dropped by my office and said he heard something about this on the radio. What's really going on?

This rumor has been around for years, I heard about it long before I even moved to Broadlands. (and no it wasn't because of the Rumor that I moved here). Similar rumors exist for Brambleton and River Creek

We're usually good about putting in a comment, but this particular time, one of the admins probably forgot; when we do some of the moderating during the day when we're at work, it's easy to lose track of what we're doing when we're dealing with our daytime responsibilities at work. Sorry about that.

I did the closing on that one, and yes I did forget to put a notice. I actually thought I did, had to go back a few minutes ago and check. Not only was the matter thought settled, but 'swingers' is not in the family nature of these boards. Sorry but that topic just doesn't belong here.

    Mr. Linux and hornerjo,

Thanks for the explanation. You cleared it all up.

There are over 3200 residential units in Broadlands. I can almost guarantee you we have "swingers" here. Judging by our demographics and behaviours I have seen from adults, I'd be shocked if we didn't.
I think they moved in from Ashburn Farm when their brothel was closed down. :)

    vacliff,

We've had no problems since we banned the rock mulch.

    vacliff,

What about the "demographics and behaviors" of the adults in the Broadlands makes you think that something like this would go on in our community? I would assume that you, as the head of the HOA, know the community better than pretty much anyone else, so I am interested in what make you think that.

How did you determine that it was just a rumor? Hypothesis testing involving large rocks in your front yard?
