I am doing some research on replacing our traditional gas hot water heater with a tankless system and I am wondering if anyone has installed any of the following products:

    • Bosch Aquastar 2400E (gas) or Bosch AE125 (whole house electric tankless heater)
    • Gaiam Aquastar 125B (gas)
    • Nortiz N-084M (gas)
Also any input on gas vs. electric would be helpful.
    Thanks!

Re: Norbitz...Tankless Hot Water Heaters Info

    thepea2001 and others--

Erika--first of all--congrats on your family's new arrival of the baby. The baby is quite cute and what a blessing for your family this Christmas. With the arrival of your new baby, your family will be busy this joyous Season, as we can attest to as parents of 6 kids. May God Bless your family this year.

Now back to the question--yes, we have a Tankless Hot Water System in our home. My husband installed it several years ago when we built our new home. Great system and very energy-savings are realized. For more info and resources with web sites/links--check out my post called "HVAC Problems..." dated 03/13/06 under the "Homeowners Corner..." thread. We have a Natural Gas system is great.

The above-mentioned post relates to Consumers info and web sites. Also, check out on Saturdays XM's Satellite program hosted by Gary Sullivan who is an expert on all "Home Front(s)" issues with great advice. Check out Gary's web site for downloadable programs on Tankless Hot Water Systems and other Homeowner Consumer info.

Web sites are for info below--

    www.garysullivanonline.com (Gary Sullivan's site/info.)
    www.rheemtankless.com (Rheem's Tankless Hot Water site/info.)
    www.foreverhotwater.com (Rinnai's site.)
    www.boschhotwater.com (Bosch's site.)
www.bowmanheating.com (Bowman's Heating & Air's site for coupon offers, etc. Also, has a plumbing business and can install Tankless Systems or can refer you to sources who can install such systems. Great service and locally owned in Sterling area.)

Any more questions--just PM us or post here on this thread under this post. I can also supply Consumer Research info on Tankless Systems if needed.

    Good luck--

    Foodie

I just read this thread the other day.. check it out:

    http://www.fatwallet.com/t/18/788706/

It seems like the newer, highly insulated gas-fired tank heaters are still really good in terms of price/performance. I agree that tankless sounds a lot better because it doesnt have to keep 50gal heated all the time, but the installation costs can be $$$ because a lot of the tankless-style require their own vent (ie can't re-use the one from your existing furnace/h20 heater) and potentially a larger gas line to the unit. But, it seems like japan/europe have been using these for years, so I'm sure tank heaters will go the way of the do-do eventually. Now if only the US would switch to metric!!

http://www.takagi.com/ is a brand I've heard good things about as well.

Thanks for the links boomer - my consumer report account had little to no information about the tankless system and I could only find ratings on websites that sell the system...not the performance. thanks again
