Actually, Chris, your insults really are starting to sting. I didn't take you too seriously when you labled me a racist, homophobic member of the He-Man Woman-Haters Club, but accusing me of being a "boobist" really hurts.

I'd sooner barf. That's worse that the "viloation" in the Shield this week, don't you think? Anyway, I heard that Bush has cooties.

Dudes! Lo. Co. is just a big Republican stronghold. You guys need a viewpoint from a centrist now and again to make you see reality. You don't seem like such bad people (though such aversion to a woman's breast is STARTLING!)! I've said as much about most of you! Really, once you get over this Republican "phase", you'll be great guys, even. (Personally, I hope the Republicans try to outlaw boobs and beer this year. We really did to see a slaughter at the polls!)

Anyway, Dune is on Sci-Fi now. That'a a desert war that had some fun in it, and boy does it show the dangers of religion. So, I gotta get back to the boob tube (sorry bad pun).

    Moved from School budget thread:

Yes it was, but was it smaller under Bush senior than Clinton - yes it was! The deficit grows under each President.

Homer, the rate of growth under Bush II has been unprecedented! This weekend, I heard one CONSERVATIVE commentator say that Bush never met a spending program that he did not like -- yes it's true!

But how much of that is the war versus social programs?

There's more than just a reckless war and social programs! Are you forgetting the corporate welfare programs for the HMOs and the Halliburtons of the country? Also, talking about Halliburton, I wonder how much of the deficit is actually being caused by what Halliburton is over-charging the tax-payers?

I have to agree that the Haliburton/Cheney thing really disturbs me. Over charging, no competition, it's just a give away to big business. I wonder if Haliburton is even incorporated in the USA anymore. That tax loophool needs to be closed!

Local politicians are unable to affect major social issues, so I had no problems voting for Steve Snow. He was against the hospital, and that was enough for me.

How do you tell the difference between Liberals, Conservatives and Southerners?

    Simple....Pose the following question:

You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges.

You are carrying a Glock .40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.

    What do you do?

    Liberal Answer:

Well, that's not enough information to answer the question.

Does the man look poor or oppressed?

Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?

    Could we run away?

    What does my wife think?

    What about the kids?

Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?

What does the law say about this situation?

Does the Glock have an appropriate safety built into it?

Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?

Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?

Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?

If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?

    Should I call 9-1-1?

Why is this street so deserted?

We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.

This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for a few days and try to come to a consensus.

    Conservative Answer:

    BANG!

    Southerner's Answer:

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click...

    (sounds of reloading).

Wife: "Sweetheart, he looks like he's still moving, what do you kids think?"

Son: "Mom's right Dad, I saw it, too."

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click.

Daughter: "Nice group, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips?"

Thought a little levity was needed in this discussion.

afgm: He's a state rep, not a Supervisor. State reps have the ability to move social agendas forward (or backward in Dick Black's case).

Let's take a look at some of your statements

"I've formed my views on Republicans over the last several years. The sight of Bush makes me puke. Anyone who support him or his party is part of a repressive regime hell bent on undoing fundamental inalienable rights."

"I honestly believe that right-wingers (from Republicans to Neo-Nazis and Fascists as a group), are responsible for injecting more vile and filth into this precious world than anyone with a liberal outlook."

"My point here is that all of you who give your votes and cash to the Republican party are supporting the repression of individual freedoms by associating yourselves with individuals and groups who do not value true American values, such as liberty and justice for all."

Chris, How hypocritical can you get? Ok, so he is just a "local" politician. Whose to say he has no desire to move up to a state or congressional seat? I guess it's ok to be "part of a repressive regime hell bent on undoing fundamental inalienable rights" as long as you are against the hospital. Since he is Republican he is, to quote you, "responsible for injecting more vile and filth into this precious world" but i guess since he can only inject it locally it's ok huh?
You have repeatedly accused anyone who voted Republican with supporting racism and bigotry. Now we find that you are willing to support a republican simply because he happens to support one issue that you hold dearly. How selfish.

OP: I was referring to candidates in state or national elections. Party affiliation makes practically no difference in local matters because the state and federal governments set most of the policies that we lie by/under. Truthfully, the Lo. Co. BOS really can do little beyond taxing us and running our schools. So, for local elections, I vote on the issues that are important to me. Feel free to continue bashing me, though. It seems like it is the local pass-time.
