Yes I agree with basically all the items in the past few posts... I guess on the "Community Issues" forum, I started with different (if not accurate) expectations of what to expect in form and content for posts. Yes, the forum is just what you said... for voice opinions and do not constitute more than that unless action results - like letters, phone calls, appearances etc.

So, is that next board meeting on the 13th? Perhaps I will show up for my first... so i can get started on being informed/involved. I am still trying to read through that exciting contract with Openband.. a little light reading from one of the previous meetings.

So, is there anything from this pool pass/memberships thread that will actually turn into action? How does this work? How do the good ideas move forward from this thread (for example)?

Well Staci (a resident board member) is also the liason with the pool management company.. so its good that people are reporting problems they are experiencing so she can take it up with the company.

I would assume if someone were to bring this up at the meeting, Staci could give updates on those follow-ups and what is happening. I don't know what's on their scheduled agenda, but I believe a resident can request a topic ahead of time and appear if they would like to discuss. Speak to Wes (the general manager) or Cliff for those specifics.

There can not be changes made to the passes already sold this season, and I don't think they would consider what changes to make for the next season until after all the data is collected for this current season. But one could get the specifics on that and when it will be discussed as well :)

If someone wants the board to take action on something, getting it on the meeting agenda is the place to start.. I'm sure Cliff (vacliff here) would be happy to bring someone up to speed on how to get things done :)

I can only speak on behalf of how we do things in the technology committee.. where we are less formal and are open to anyone appearing or submitting ideas to discuss an issue or ideas for items within our scope. We also meet on the 13th (later in the evening) for anyone who wants to stop by and hang out or throw ideas around :)

As far as board meetings anyone can show up to attend. They are almost always the 2nd Tuesday of the month (that would be the 13th of this month) and start at 5:30pm at the Nature Center. We do have an agenda that we discuss and if you call Wes ahead of time he can give you a set time if there is only one thing you wish to discuss or you may come and enjoy our whole meeting (they are normally over no later then 7:30).

All residents are welcome to come to any board meeting to either express an opinion on somehting that is going on or to just listen in to what the board is doing.

As for Outside pool memberships they will be discussed at the next meeting as I know 1 resident has already requested it be addressed (You can call Wes if you want a estimated time to talk about it).

As for this year we will not be able to make any changes to the passes that we have sold. For what we are doing next year, that will be discussed when we go to budget time sometime in October early November, that way we have all the data from the past season as well as being able to look at what the projected fees are for the following year.

If you have any other questions about how the board meetings work or about how the opinions that are expressed here are passed on you can feel free to call me directly 703 723 1984 or email me ssdkapinos@yahoo.com as I can answer questions the same a Cliff can.

Thanks to both of you, Steve and Staci... and I guess since it is "Tuesday" why not make it ... 2 for Tuesday from Dominos.

Sorry could not resist. And thanks for the heads-up on the Agenda and Pool Passes issue. I am not feeling like I NEED to be there, but would be interested to kinda seee how this process works. Getting there before 6:30 seems like the challenge.

    Sez you !! :rasp:

Too true ... one of the problems one often sees on forums is the fact you can't tell if someone is joshing or not .. unless they use a smilie.

Just a side note; the Broadlands HOA does not directly administer the Openband contract. There's a seperate HOA just for Openband. The meeting we are talking about on the 13th is for the Broadlands HOA, NOT the Broadlands Openband HOA...

Openband issues must be forwarded to the Broadlands Openband HOA. I would suggest you bring them up with the Openband/Southern Walk Technology Committee (Sorry, not sure about the exact committee name...)...

Anyone that would like to come to a Board meeting and speak (please do! please do!) can simply show up. We have an "owners comments" section every month on the agenda. It is usually within the first 30 minutes of the meeting. You can speak about whatever you would like and you don't have to call ahead to get put on the agenda.
If you can't make it that early, show up any time and the Board will be happy to hear from you. If you have a lengthy topic you'd like to discuss, then I'd recommend you call ahead for a scheduled time.
As you can see, I get lonely at the Board meetings and would love to have more residents show up.
And fess up Homer....nothing could get you to attend a Board meeting!!!!

Zeratul, I didn't get to your email yet, but it looks like Staci and Cliff have responded on the forums. The Technology Committee meeting is in the second tuesday of the month, at Community Center starting at 7:30pm.

    Thanks for inquiring.

Yes, as a Southernwalk resident, I have been aware that there is a separate HOA for this section and that the meetings being discussed were the Broadlands HOA, but thanks for clarifying.... I have been quietly observing and learning more about the separate issues that come with the Southernwalk residence... mainly the Openband part (not the right topic here...) but appreciate the responses Cliff in helping to understand the meeting agenda and approach to the Board meetings.

Did I understand Staci correctly that for next year we will have new barcodes and some kind of "swipe" system/reader at the pools? Is this a done deal, or still in the planning stages? And I guess next we can go to a smart card with biometric finger and retina scanning!!!! :) But I like the idea of a swipe system, paid for by the outside memberships too!

Yes next year we are going to a new system. It has been in the planning stage for several years and we thought we were going to able to do that this year. Unfortunatley the program that we had been looking at did not give us the options we needed. We are in the process right now of trying out another program that is used by many Y's in this area and so far it seems to provide us with the needed options and even better at a much cheaper price.

What each resident will be getting is a card similar to what you get at the grocery store or at the gym with a barcode on one side and the broadlands logo on the other. When you go to the pools you will just scan this card at the front desk when you walk in. This will bring up your picture for them to verify.
Some of the nice features is it will also generate daly reports for an even more accurate pool count; it requires information when bringing in guests thus helping to decrease insurance cost; plus an added bonus (but totally optional) if you have a medical condition you can have it noted ( but not shown unless needed by the manager on duty) to your record in case there is ever an emergency.
We are also working on putting in a network between all 3 pools this way if someone is given restricted access becasue of inappropriate behavior they are not able to just go to another pool becasue word has not traveled fast enough. Plus we will be able to make sure residents that have moved out of the community (ie after the years packets went out but before they moved) are not just walking back in as if they still live here. And we will be able to glaringly denote outside members and thus turn off there passes at summerbrooke so they are always denied access and if the board decides to eliminate certain holiday weekends gaurds can not forget as all that information will be in the system.

It is still in the early stages so if you have any ideas please let me know I will be happy to discuss them with you

    Staci

I'd guess you're going to have to continue with outside revenue to pay for something like this. Do you have an estimate for a barcode system with the features you mentioned?

For an Ashburn Farm resident, you sure seem very interested in our Pool issue and its related costs. Does your community have a similar setup?

Staci - this is awesome! As a resident in SW and being turned away over the holiday, it made us realize how many perks/services our 2 HOA fees cover in the community. As for the potential network connection to the current pools, I would imagine that each pool will have to tunnel back to a main server to capture and send the data/pictures.
What type of connections does the HOA have in mind, Point to Point, Point to Multi Point, utilize Openband/Adelphia Fiber or wireless? I would be more than happy to send you a direct email...please let me know.

What's this about a picture on the i.d. cards? Are we all going to have to go down to the Nature Center and pose for pictures? That sounds like a logistical nightmare. We can't even find the time to get the family picture from the Fire Department every year.

Well, if you want to use the pools, I'm sure everyone can squeeze in 10 minutes of one day some time over the winter/spring to get their picture taken.

Could we just send in a picture? Our family includes step kids who are only with us in the summer.

Oh, and Cliff, I haven't even found the time yet get to the pools, so no, I don't necessarily feel the need to drop everything and get my picture taken. But that's just me.

I didn't even know there was a problem on Memorial Day with overcrowding because I never even tried to get there.
