    Homer-
    First, it's President, now.
Regarding the trash situation, the HOA has the Newsletter, the Armstrong Connect website, our website, our forums, and an HOA staff that is just a phone call away. If residents are not aware of any of these options and cannot figure out what to do, there's nothing else I, or the HOA, can do for them. I assume residents are ADULTS, not children that have to have their hands held through every little thing that needs to be done.
If after being given several months notice, which we intend to give, regarding getting pictures taken for pool pass ID's, all 2000 residents show up the day the pools open, they're going to get delayed.
This should be a simple process and you seem to want to make it a big issue. Tell you what, how about doing some volunteer time for the HOA and you can work on a plan to do this that is satisfactory to you. If not, what until we do it, it fails, and you can crow "See, I told you so!" with a gleam in your eye.

P.S. I offered you the can you wanted, the day you requested it, on these forums. You chose not to call.

If we could get 100 people to show up to anything at one time I would call that I miracle. Maybe we should hold a meeting at the same time then everyone can get all there information at 1 time. 1 stop shopping :)

Cliff: So b/c I don't or can't volunter then I have less then a voice. I guess that 95% of the HOA also is less important then the board members and volunteers? I'm so glad I pay dues then! You guys using that as an excuse to deflect opinions not to your liking is getting real old. Try to remember some families have two working parents and kids and really don't have the time to participate.

I'm not trying to make this a big issue. I just dont see why you have just dismiss digital pictures offhand w/o analyzing the pros/cons first. Any time you can take the load off of the homeowner, you should. It would save the HOA money anyway, by reducing the time to make the badges.

You did offer, and if you go back to that thread, I accepted and waswaiting for a reply. I stopped looking at that thread weeks ago so I don't know if you replied since then.

Oh and about Armstrong connect: Most people don't use it b/c no-one knew to not throw out the envelope b/c you need the code. Another failed implementation.

Staci: Pools are more fun, and kids tend to want to goto them versus boring government meetings so you may be surprised on the rush you get on the first day you can get passes and the last day before the pools open.

Another issue to consider about pool check in...upon arrival we hold all the cards at the front desk. When people leave they collect them. If something were to happen, the cards can be a clue to help identify missing or hurt individuals.

We have not dismissed the idea but there is a problem in differing picture sizes. What we are trying to do secure the data more by having only 1 database and several endpoints. In trying to do a network this way when a member is signing in at any location the computer needs to know how to handle the information if we have a lot of different size packets because we allow digital images we may end up with a mess.

The idea is to start off simple you have hopefully already sumitted your information with this years pool passes (the form asked you to complet it even if you did not need new passes) so we have an up to date and current data base. So when you come in for your pass your information is already in the computer and all you need to do is verify the typed info is correct at that time you recieve you bar coded pass and have your picture taken. simple. The idea is we will start in January with 1 computer at a time as more people start comming in we will add additional station as needed. We will have several late evening hours and several Saturdays so that it makes it easy for the majority that want the passes to get the passes. I am sure if you can not make ANY of the available times form Jan until Memorial day weekend that a simple phone call to the office and someone will be willing to set up a time to help you out that works for both you and them to have pictures taken

I am not sure how long you have been here but when we 1st moved in everyone had to go down to the offices at that time in order to get there cards punched (this was long before the stickers) and cards were only good for 3 years so you had to keep getting new ones made. Yes I know the community was much smaller then but 1 year having to do this should be very do able. Besides we managed at least a % of it this year as anyone who needed a new card was required to come in and pick it up at the office we did not mail them out. Everyone that wanted one seems to have gotten it and if they have'nt we have not heard.

Besides how would you handle getting everyone a card if they send us a picture. So you send in your whole families pictures and we send you back 4 cards you guess whos is whos on your 1st trip?
We are not making the barcodes as you sit and wait it should be a simple
verify the information, scan the card in take the picture and you are out the door.
Just remember this is still in the developmental stages. You may seem to think we are dismissing ideas but I have spent the last 3 years reaserching this and looking at all kinds of pro and cons to alot of different ideas some we have dismissed but only after a lot of reaserch other things we are still working on the final details. We are not trying to just jump into this that is why it was not implimented this current season but giving ourselves an entire year to do so.

Good reply Staci. I'm glad to see the details.

Picture Sizes: Chances are, if you have a digital camera you can sixe the picture. Online sites such as Ophoto will size it for you.

I've been here since '01. Typically one person went to pick everything up. It's easier then packing up the kids and us alll coming down.

Matching photos: Have instructions that specify photo file name is full name, ex. Homer_Simpson.jpg.

Jan to end of May is along time. I'm sure msot people will be early adopters, [I know I will]. But it's just human nature to wait to the last minute. And even though it is there fault they procrastinated, it's not them who will look bad.

That's great! Those of us who don't use the pool will be able to get a refund on our dues and those who use it the most can pay more...;)

    Homer-
What I object to is that first, you agree something needs to be done to secure the pools. We all agree. An obvious solution, one that many other HOA's use, is to have pictures. Now that we agree on that, you rail on about the inconvenience of having to take 10 minutes out of your day to stop by the HOA and have the picture taken. It seems to me, and maybe I'm missing something, you simply want to shoot down every idea. Maybe your intent is to offer constructive criticism, but it doesn't come across that way.

If the issue was simply digital pictures, I'm all for it. But the picture still needs to be taken. I have concerns about someone mailing in pictures, with no verification process. I have no problem "looking bad" if hundreds of people wait until the last second to get their pictures taken to get their pass. We anticipate this rush will happen and will offer weekend/evening hours as we get closer to the pools opening.

Armstrong Connect was mentioned on the forums, in the newsletter, and on the website. A simple phone call would solve the problem for those who threw out the envelopes. But I guess a resident having to make a phone call indicates a major failure on the HOA's part.

I'm fully aware you have no intent to volunteer or do anything. It's a rhetorical comment.

By the way, it took a while, but I found the post where I offered to swap cans........and I found the post where you replied. I'm sorry I missed it.
Still interested? Still haven't used the large monstrosity.
    Peace

If I was simply shooting down every idea, I would have been against tightening security, wouldn't I? In addition I was supportive of the new Trash service, so no I am not a troll.

As for volunteering, I had time before the baby, I got turned off by some of the forum crowd. Now that I'm cool with some of those folks, I have no time. Baby consumes all.

I haven't used the small one yet. It's one of those from HD, tan, squat, with a lid, no markings. I'm willing to trade. Send me an email if you are interested. I don't have a car big enough to hold the big can though.
